2" SU's

Has anyone any information on which needles a 260 would run perfect on, I understand it's trial and error but I’d like to knock some the trial down slightly, I'm running 2" proper SU's, with a 6into1 manifold, she runs nice but now I'm learning more about the cars characteristics, the flat spots are getting obvious, also I got left behind going up hill by a new shape beetle!!!.

Thanks

I have a pair of HS8's about to go onto my 2.8 engined 260 (with 6-branch) and it's an issue for me too. Not many companies stock these needles any more but I believe Burlen Fuel Systems do - although I don't know if they're any good. You could also contact Dave Jarman (DJ Road and Race) who have prepared 2" SU's and I understand are well respected. Whichever one of us gets a result first can tell the other!

2" SU Needles

Hi Guys
When I was running twin 2" SU's on my 240 I had the car set up on a rolling road , the tuner worked out where the needles where going lean and removed material from them accordingly , finishing them off in a lathe with some fine emery paper to remove any rough edges , the company I used , Shaw And Upton , was recommended to me by Kevin Irons of Samuri Conversions and can be contacted on 01327 705110

Hope this helps

Tim

Re: 2" SU Needles

I used Trevor Shaw's rolling road also at Daventry. Same experience, he got the emery paper out and profiled the needles as necessary. The car has no flat spots, good power ( 175 at wheels ) and good economy. He is very down to earth, no bullshit and it seemed reasonable to me at £93.

only real way to do it is on the rolling road. Not as expensive as you think and not as expensive as an engine rebuilt when you run the mixture too lean while using the trial and error method.
It is not only the needles that need sorting out, you have to look at the whole picture,ie initial timing advance both mechanical and vacuam etc. Rolling roads are all over the place so just get asking but make sure the garage with the road is ok with the older car. IE no bloody chips and brians to contend with. just good old fashioned mechanics. I know of 2 in the dorset somerset area that are worth going to if it is of any help. ben
