Registering a US import in 2020

To confirm; when Importing you do not pay any sort of taxes on the vehicle, right? Just the DVLA fees. Until the DVLA assigns License Plates you have to have the car parked on private property obviously right (otherwise it can get clamped/removed etc).

Just filling out the V55/5 form. All good apart from #46 - "Date of original registration". I can't see that on the US title I have? Only "YR FIRST SOLD".

Nearest I can tell is 2/76.
The title says it was first registered in 1976 and the month tab on the original california plates is February.

Thank you very much for this guide, two quick questions...

1) Do I need to mail in the title and registration or just registration? Since I'm importing my own car I have the US registration in my name. Still waiting on getting my title back from the shippers. The form says "an original non-UK registration document or certificate if available" but this post mentions the title.

2) If my 5-digit odometer has just rolled over but the form has 6-digits, would it make sense to put as 100456 or 000456 (It shows 00456 on the odometer but it has rolled over in my ownership)

Hi
DVLA will want to see the original title even though its in your name , Might be worth sending in pictures of the car form a few angles showing it is complete and one showing the VIN stamped into the body along with your proof of ID and Address .

@Healey 12 Thanks for the response. Yes that makes sense, I'm mostly just impatient since I'm waiting on the title in the mail!

I'll send title, registration, and proof of ID/Registration. I have photos of everything (Including both VIN plates and stamped VIN on the bulkhead), my only concern with the photos is the appearance of my car with the Kevlar front panels. I don't know if they would be more inclined to inspect it because of how it looks.
