In the process of installing a A/C unit in place of the original blower motor.

Yeah eventually when I strip it all back and start again I'll be putting in a vintage air unit, but for now I just need something to get the car through the colder weather. If it's an upgrade and blows better then perfect! My motor was progressively getting worse and worse until its finally died a death :(

I've bought a Honda Jazz blower off ebay for £8.40 incl postage! Not worth risking anymore atm.

Will see how I go with it.

Will be interesting. The older Civic units are seemingly impossible to find online from a UK source. The advantage they have is they are a direct bolt-in due to their physical design being almost identical to the Nissan ones (assume same 3rd party manufacturer). The Jazz ones do seemingly have the same three bolt mounting design though - depends on if they are the right size and spacing.

The spacing is the same at 140mm I asked a seller.

Ah, good work! Look forward to hearing the results.

Comical side note - when I stripped Project Dixie down, and disassembled the blower unit to restore, I thought I'd test the motor to see if it was still worth not binning. So I attached a couple of wires to the contacts and, as you do, touched those to the terminals on my red Z's battery... cue a large ZAP!!!, a shower of sparks, and a blower fan spinning so fast in my hands it nearly took off for the rafters! Seems to work nicely still...

Yep, when you search for motors often you get the resistor pack in the results.

I'm assuming that the Z control works with the Honda set-up.

You think you had a problem - I watched a youtube video last night of Guy Martin running a Merlin engine on a trailer. He said when he first ran it in a workshop it tried to escape!

What a great story, if your going to drive through a wall, might as well go full fat and do it with a V12 27ltr Merlin engine...... incl propeller!!:Do_O

Awesome. I love Guy Martin - he’s basically the Millennial Fred Dibnah!

I wouldn’t choose a Merlin personally; in a money-no-object, millionaire man cave I’d be quite happy with a complete, airworthy Curtiss P-40 Warhawk in Flying Tigers paint job...

The Kia might be worth a try. The Jazz motor is too deep. I can sort it but a bit of a PITA. Shearing two bolts is also a PITA. Wish I hadn't read the Thread. I had to take my whole blower unit out. What was useful was discovering badly adjusted flap cable and no seal to bulkhead. Both worth checking to improve efficiency of blower.

Rob, would it be possible to just swap the existing hamster wheel onto the new motor?

hi Zheads here are some picyure of the Kia blower upgrade

As you can see they are very similar . this motor is out off a Kia sodona but its a motor put in many Kia all you needis a PPT20 .
All i have done is trim the housing about 5mm with a angle grinder and dremmel . Then i looked at the fit all the holes line up and the electrical connection is the same on my 280z but if you had a 240z just solder a T plug on.
you dont need to fit the spacer as the fan clears anyway but shorter bolts are required . In the US blogs they say the fan greatly improved . hope this blog helps thanks for looking Chris20200120_142553.jpg 20200120_142521.jpg 20200120_144918.jpg 20200120_145703.jpg 20200120_142617_HDR.jpg 20200120_142553.jpg 20200120_142521.jpg 20200120_144918.jpg 20200120_145703.jpg 20200120_142617_HDR.jpg 20200120_142553.jpg 20200120_142521.jpg 20200120_144918.jpg 20200120_145703.jpg 20200120_142617_HDR.jpg 20200120_142553.jpg 20200120_142521.jpg 20200120_144918.jpg 20200120_145703.jpg 20200120_142617_HDR.jpg 20200120_142553.jpg 20200120_142521.jpg 20200120_144918.jpg 20200120_145703.jpg 20200120_142617_HDR.jpg

Car looks amazing! What wheel and tyre combination is that?

rota RBX if i remember 17 inch x8.5 with 225x 40 tyres with a 3 mm spacer on the front dont need the space but put then on for insurance . no rubbing problems at all this is on a car with standard struts and dropped 40mm . Rota uk are great just give them a call about £650 plus TR1 from demon tweeks glad you like the car it came from the US with most of its original paint straight as a arrow just been sat in a barn for years . apart from the normal floor rail damage the rust on the hole car was about the size of a credit card . as many on this site will say it was 2 years hard work but i have engoyed it all but it would still be a rolling project if not for all the help from Mike .

Cheers Chris,
Never had the opportunity to deal with Mike but he sounds like a true gent who will clearly be missed.

The Honda motor description talks about pulse width modulation as the method of speed control. Could you use the Honda speed control and do away with the resistor pack?
