200kg of filler removed:eek::eek: are you sure that equates to about 31 stone :eek: as you've said this is going to be one of the best 260zs in the Uk when done i am really interested to see what you do with this car as i am restoring a 260z myself, 2 seater not a 2+2 are your having the shell blasted or dipped ,standard engine or modified what wheels, can i also ask why you are fitting new part before all the body is done and sprayed :confused: am i doing something wrong as I've stripped everything from shell :rofl: look forward to seeing you car progress. keep the pics coming step by step they might help :unsure: keep up the good work

Everything will be stripped prior to respray, but After welding and bodywork has been done.

I just want to ensure everything is complete and working first before getting respray, so that I do not have to retouch the bodywork, by working on te car after it has just been freshly sprayed!

Sensible I know!!

With regards, to wheels, I am getting them custom wellers.
 
To be fair, I will needs parts of panels made up to be let in must not large parts or in excessive amounts, so will not be having any whole panels made.

Tbh for the most part mine are all mostly okay.
 
Okay,

I must confess, although the clutch master cylinder does fit!!!

Here is the 1 hour of minor engineering that needed to be done in order for it to be aligned straight and not angled when fitted! (Just incase you all go buying them and wonder why your master cylinder is leaning to one side slightly!!

Saying this, it is actually a universal part for all 3 datsun models (240/260/280), but they just drill the holes in the different places hence the overly large flange bracked with plenty of drilling space (waste material) to start off with.

Took about an hour from start to finish as I wanted it exactly centre, and to look like it had not been modified. (End result within less than 0.5mm exact line of centre from bolt holes measured digitally - so pretty damn accurate!).

Actually made a lot thicker (2x as thick aluminium on the mounting bracket - still plenty of thread on the studs on the firewall to pass the whole way through the nuts used once fitted and secirely tightened down) and better than OEM and an upgrade on the 240/260 parts due to the large bore size.

If you are going to do this mod, it is okay to drill and cut the excess material as I have as there is still plenty of material to retain ample enough strength in the mounting bracket and still far more than the oem mounting plate has alltogether!

Also once fitted, does not fowl on the throttle linkage once fully opened or fully closed, just incase anybody wanted to ask that question.

Also, I changed over the original connecting rod for the new unit, as it was about 10mm longer on the original unit, plus the the original rod has an extra tightenin nut on the end to clamp up against to ensure it does not work itself loose when driving.

This is a simple process by removing the gaitor, and unclipping the circlip and the retaining cup underneath it, before pulling the rod out, and placing the retaining cup, circlip and gaitor back on the new unit in that specific order.

It doesn't fit, it won't work better than OEM and it doesn't look standard.

Oh hang on though, braided clutch hose? You mean, like, real metal braided hose? Like they have on racing cars?



I should have guessed it when I saw the new - virgin - tube of Hylomar. You're obviously a pro.

All bets are off then. I know when I'm beaten....

Your reaction is what "says it all", actually.

You need somebody to give you a reality check. As far as I can see, you're going to be well out of your depth with this project. I see you describing its condition and it just makes me think you're either kidding yourself or you just don't realise how much work you have got coming.

Buying a Cherry Bomb (a poor choice in itself) and funny coloured silicone hoses is all very well, but your time and money would be better spent at this point gathering data, finding out what is and isn't available, purchasing the right parts the first time (like the correct OEM clutch master cylinder) and learning more about the car. You should be sourcing a factory parts manual or a copy of one, a factory workshop manual and a factory engine manual. You should be taking photos of things as you take them off the car, labelling and bagging them, and making notes for reassembly. Such pieces can then be restored/refurbished/replaced while the bodywork of the car is being tackled (and believe me it needs more work than you are currently imagining).

All the virtual pats on the back are well and good, but it looks to me as though you don't have much of a clue what you are doing and don't listen to anybody's advice. Both are easy to change if you open your mind to the possibility.
 
You will get a massive amount of good advice from this forum and its members and I would advice you listen. As I've said before, all advice and comments are given to help you so don't take it the wrong way. Make friends not enemies as you may be grateful for their help in the future.
 
How many cars do you think I have rebuilt exactly to make such accusations?! You do not even know me or what I have done, so I rather you just shut your mouth and move on, I do not need you or your comments.

You're clearly a clever and capable chap with bags of enthusiasm. When I hire people I always look for attitude and enthusiasm above all!

Albrecht knows more about these cars than all of us put together - in the Matrix he would be the Oracle ;)

His ways of conveying the message may be very direct and easily misconstrued but trust me, you do want to take the emotion out of the text and heed his advice. He's a good guy and has your best interests at heart.

Not sure he's a jogger though ;)
