Z432R Black Bonnet

Ok have spent hours last night going through my Z books/mags to try and find out why did the Z432R have a black bonnet and why was it a satin/matt colour ?

I thought it was to stop/reduce light reflecting off the bonnet and affecting the visibility of the racing driver.

Didnt the 432-R have the fibreglass bonnet? If so I wonder if its anything to do with the manufacture/supply of those items to Datsun/Nissan

Yes they were fibreglass have just also noticed that the 240z Datsun/Nissan Rally cars also had the black bonnet was is something to do with Car Graphics Designs ? That made the Race & Rally cars stand out from the rest.

If I remember correctly the matt black bonnet was supposed to reflect/disperse heat away from the engine compartment.

Black bonnets weren't just on Nissan cars, many other manufacturers did the same.

Lots of cars had matt black bonnets in the 70's especially rally cars. At the time it was said to reduce reflections at night but I think it was just a trend. I painted my rally Imp bonnet matt black ( was 19 at the time).

I painted my rally Imp bonnet matt black ( was 19 at the time).

Rear engine ?? that would have cut out the glare when in reverse gear .

Black is supposed to absorb heat or light, then dissipated it like a radiator. While light colours reflect it... like a relfector!
In the case of the z432, they where gun-metal, not black... I think
