kudos to you SAM C. so what do WE do from here, i was foolishly unaware of the plight of organisations like the YAA and i find myself asking what can I/WE do as a motoring community? we have alot of active members, we attend many show's and even put shows like billing on, Can we not do something to help the air ambulance service's? i'm sure that i'm not the only one who'd like to help and a i understand that a personal donation of any size helps but surely we as a community can think of and do something to help the services that we hope never have to use but if god forbid we do will be their for us?

Apparently James May has had a short conversation with Richard Hammond :

Injured Top Gear star Richard Hammond has spoken to his co-presenter James May from his hospital bed.
May spoke of his optimism after visiting Hammond at Leeds General Infirmary to where he was airlifted following the 36-year-old's high speed crash.
In a statement issued through his agent, May said: "I've had a conversation with Hammond today.
"Not a long one, but it was a conversation. I want to say this - doctors are cautiously optimistic about his recovery because doctors have to be.
"I'm not a doctor but I am his mate and I believe that deep inside the Hammond I know is perfectly intact.''
May's words added to the growing sense of optimism outside the hospital which began when it was announced Hammond had been moved out of intensive care.

GOOD NEWS FOR BOTH HIM AND HIS FAMILY

Hey Sam, I see you and the other guys from YAA have been visiting Pistonheads! Thought you might be welcomed with open arms over there if you showed up!! :D

News on Hammond is looking really good - apparently he got up and went to the loo himself! That is mentioned in the following article: Clarkson has written this in The Sun (very heartening and also a big "two-fingers" to the anti-car, lentil munching commies who are trying to undermine Top Gear with the usual "speed kills" claptrap) ...

Yay!! :)

The donation website is now up to an astounding £64,500, donated by Richard Hammond's well wishers to the Air Ambulance.

What a fantastic show of support from the car fraternity - there will be those that will fight to have the likes of Top Gear taken off the telly because it is too dangerous (Lentil munching commie do-gooders mainly) and very evidently a HUGE following that will fight against it.

Speaking as a "Lentil munching commie do-gooder" - I suggest that you all adore Top Gear because they do things that you may no longer do on the over-crowded, over-policed roads over-there ! It is a release for all those pent-up, frustrated adolescent 'feelings' you all get !

I respect your need to 'cling' to this televised release, in lieu of the real thing !

Wishing him...........and you a speedy recovery ;)

At least we don't have to pay for the amount we use a road, I'm able to go onto the motorway as much as I like and it costs me only my fuel ;)

Back on topic now please.

Best wishes to Richard for a speedy recovery.

The Top Gear team is one of the more entertaining on tv these days - heck, accidents happen every day and this was just another one of them - overall TG has a very good record for safety.

I look forward to the day Richard is able to rejoin the TG team and hope that the Beeb don't postpone the next series due in a couple of weeks. I am sure that Richard would not want that.

All the best

Paul

Now nearly £170k. Very impressive.

Even if the beeb say he can drive fast cars again I doubt his Doctors or (more importantly) his Wife will let him get into a machine like that in the future!

Either way, he's lucky to be alive.

I am glad he looks like he is going to be OK - fingers crossed he actually is and no curve ball comes in from left field. Brain injuries are sneaky and tend to have effects not readily apparent.

My only hope is that the do good brigade do not succeed in having the program canned. Whatever anyone says, they know what they are doing, they want to do it and none of them have a gun to their head.

I still think it should be left to the Stig to pilot such machines but having said that it's good to see he's getting better.
