VW ? Where have you been these past few years? VW's are well down the JDPower list, their cheaper stablemates (Skoda & Seat) beats the pants off 'em .

You beat me to it ! Audi - ok, at least Cathys' A3 diesel has done 130000 miles and NOTHING has gone wrong and the interior still looks perfect !

But if you want a classic car.......that runs when you want it too AND gets you home, in comfort with a certain panache and is perhaps a bit 'zippy' at a reasonable cost............

I'd have an Avensis or Mazda 6 any day, a little MX-5 for the sunshine......

Back in the 70's what did we have as a basic runnabout? 100A, 120Y, other Jap cars, Maxi, Allegro, Marina, Viva, Escort, yawn....yawn....yawn. nuff said. I'll rest my case now.

Personally I thought this weeks program was a wast of time, having to go round a wet track is a wast of time, Clarkson always drives a car in these off beat races & he always wins so a wast of time.

Wow Allan! Shout it out. You're right though. I shall still tune into Top Gear this weekend though because it's entertaining and it has cars on it. That 120Y was fab too. It was way ahead of the competition in class at the time. We'd been through a couple of Vivas and Minis and inherited one as a replacement for a shocking white Austin 1100. What an incredible leap up the quality scale it was. I remember being so smug because of it. It was quick and nimble too compared to the shite we were building in this country. Oh, the days...

Not what the AA has been telling me over the last two years:D

You are the exception to the rule as ever Mr Burns..........of course, reliability comes from regular servicing - the error a lot of previous owners have committed is to expect their Datsuns to be bullet proof and therefore have skipped an oil change here and there........

Zedboy, I respect your side, respect mine - I DO feel strongly about this and DO take it seriously - why can't one take something seriously for a change and vent ones' thought - is that politically incorrect in the UK now ?

The man is, despite being entertaining, a w*nker, a biased hypocrit with no style whos books are written for him !

I wouldn't worry about it that much. He's a Dr of Engineering that knows sod all about cars. He's said bad things about every car maker there is and I know he has picked on the Datsun/Nissan camp a bit but who gives a crap? You've got a great looking motor there that no doubt catches a fair few glances from the general unwashed as do a lot of the members here. I'd be happy with that. Move on and watch next weeks episode where he'll probably bash something else, knowing all the time that sat out on your driveway is a piece of motoring history.

I'm not!...People seem to be confusing worry with discussion!:conf2:
I shall continue to watch Top Gear because as a tax payer I'm a shareholder in the BBC made programme and I like to watch tv about cars...Despite Clarkson and his clones!:D....Can't believe I'm helping fund his £2m salary though!

He says all the "cocks" are driving Audis now!...I think he's forgotten Mercedes Benz drivers...Like himself!:p

I'm going to close this thread now as it's veered away from the original topic...which was the Nissan GTR and Z32 !
