RB 240z Conversion

The RB motor is a very pretty one indeed :) looks even better after a bit of attention from the polsihing wheel :D

what have you done with the inside of the intake manifold? I seem to recall something with stripping the inside coating of either the manifold or the throttle bodies that causes some running/idle issues.......

I know there were some other posts about this but can't find them now!

Before it was vapour blasted we made sure that the holes were pluged
so not to disturb in inside of the manifold

Throttle bodies only had a cleaning up of WD40 with a little help from a tooth brush have not touched the butterflys or interior parts

Have ordered my Intercooler yesterday have gone for the same one as Zed2k after speaking to nick he found with a little help that you can use the cold air feed holes in the rad suport pannel to pass the pipe work through.

Still waiting for the block to come from the engine shop with the mods

The interior of the car is all cleaned up and have painted both floor pans and the bulkhead.

With the blower unit out thinking of doing the Honda upgrade (has anyone done it) as i have seen the parts for sale on Ebay.com as a upgrade for the Z unit.

Only trouble with Honda upgrade is the wipers don't park any more, mine don't anyway so wouldn't bother me. And yes intercooler is tight but can be made to fit with slight body mods I wanted the largest i could fit in there for future Tweeks. Good choice Dave

Looks fantastic - love the polished look..... the only downside witha SBC is that they are ugly, only made pretty by large plastic "beauty covers". Guess I won't be able to polish mine :( ...... so to speak.

Should have stayed with the traditional SBC, '70s style - still loads of power and plenty of shiny things to add!

Dave,
I looked at doing the Honder blower upgrade (as mine is out at the moment), but since mine is a 260, a little more work is required. If I had a 240, I would...as its really straightforward from what I have read. You've probably thought of this/already done, but did you consider having your heater core recored while it out?

As I have said before...engine looking gooood.

Ian

Intercooler has arrived

Your engine bay makes me sick ! I'm gonna have to buy myself a rust free import one day. You could mistake my engine bay for a bit of the Titanic :)

Nice work, where did you get the ic from?

Best thing that i did was to buy my 240z from sunny USA the car has all its original panels on it (doors wing bumpers tailgate) but all the window rubber parts on it cracked up due to the heat !!!! Arizona Car :)

Intercooler was from ollie @ THS

Looking great dave, the engine bay is amazingly clean!! Cant wait to see more progress.

so how come its RHD? did you convert it?

Yes converted to RHD myself using parts from a rusted out RHD UK car

Easy job to do went to see a few cars that had been converted over to RHD and nicked a few good ideas from each one and put them into mine.

Would NEVER EVER restore a UK car again the car is like new under the floors and never had any welding done on it (apart from the RHD conversion and the work to install the RB gearbox and chassie extentions)

Looking good Dave,

what are you planning on doing with the end tanks, as they look to be a little to long for the holes, cutting and welding a 90 degree bend? I'm interested as I am looking to get an intercooler a similar length, but thought they we just a bit too long...

You are dead right about getting an arizona car.. puts my car to shame, must be still a bit difficult to find a straight shell out there still. Did you have someone look over a few cars out there for you?

Yep going to weld in a 90 degree bend in there so we do not have to bugger around with chopping up the rad pannel and should look neater

As for the Z bought it 3 years ago off ebay
The car came from the same chap that supplied Nissan with there 240z rebuild program some years back so when he said that the car was sound i knew that the was on the ball with it.

Apart from a few car park dents and a few marks under the car from a fork lift truck putting it into the shipping container the car was in fantastic conditition for a 33 year old motor.

Todays task was to make up the text to go on the coil pack cover wanted to change the original over cover from

"NISSAN TWIN CAM 24 VALVE"

To

"DATSUN GT-R"

Another day in the workshop :)
