performance engines

V8s, turbos ? You're all missing the point of these cars ! Just breath normally, into your L6 and you can have all the torque you need ! And guys, these cars were made for going round corners and changing down a gear just as much as up, a stab on the brakes.....
If you drive otherwise, I can understand why you'd want to change the character of the car ----- I don't understand though why you don't just go out and buy the car that suits your needs ! :) :)

I agree that modern cars are technical nightmares for normal people like me, and then you go out and clone your Zeds to match 'em....my next Z will be supercharged with an inter-cooler and throttle-bodies in a 2+2 ! Go on, I'm waiting......

if someone could confirm this i may be wrong, a standard late 260 engine Lxxxxx DONT KNOW THE NUMBERS, pushes out about 160 brake, would i be right in assuming that tripple webers on a cannon inlet manifold,high lift cam,nismo exaust,gas flow should take the motor to about the 200 brake area? would the box/diff in standard trim take that sort of power easily?
 
Yes and yes - don't forget brakes, suspension, anti-roll bars, cooling....... but if you want a fast shoping trolley...

I like understated power, if someone sees a 2+2, they're gonna think it slow ! They'll soon know better !
 
it would be nice to have a chart to look at regarding cost v's performace, ie; i want to spend 2k and that would get me approx. x hp. and of course the same type of things with brakes/boxes etc. or would this scare us all?...lol
 
Too many variations to get the power, I think !
And all depends upon the users' starting base, ie hanicapped 260 2+2 drivers needing more money to get power !
And then a chart to compare power to weight to realise that 260 2+2 owners need to spend more than 2 seaters to have the same performance :)

Just open your wallet, hold it upside down and tick off the months !
 
Standard 260z,165bhp.2+2 will be a tad slower,especially when some one as PLUMP as yourself is driving it
 
You are referring to 'bicycle repair man' I assume as I'm no longer 'stout' or seen dead in a 2+2 (for the moment) ?

I do not understand why you keep on about changing the character of the car ?????? If the balance remains the same, the brakes are infinitely superior and there is a ton more power you have the same character just faster acceleration and deceleration and superior handling.

That is not drastically changing a car's character, it is improving it in line with what is was to start with. A 5.7 all aluminium V8 is roughly the same weight as an L series. The gearbox is heavier but lower and a bit further back, helping lower the centre of gravity. 300mm vented discs and AP six pot calipers all round will make it stop well. Remote reservoir suspension courtesy of Ohlins will keep it on the road.

What's different ?

Not a lot in essence, just goes quicker, stops quicker and goes round corners MUCH better than standard.

You have to admit that although it is a big chance from standard it does not affect the "character" of the car a great deal.

Nothing in-line about a V8 ! I never mentioned anything about changing the character of the car here but since you open the can...a Z appeals to all the senses, certianly mine, I love the look, the feel and the smell as I get in. I ALSO LOVE THE SOUND OF THE SIX CYLYINDER ENGINE ! And that is something YOU are changing ! Yes, you'll have all the other senses Z fullfilled (leather interior excepted ?) but not the sound !
Small detail that your box will have 6 gears but I think that's neat (with your engine, not a Z one!)

I stand by saying that a Z without a Z engine is a kit-car, a dragster, a wannabe something else !

Most modified cars go/stop/corner better than standard cars but they all have one thing in common - they all sound like a Z and you can tell one's coming from a way away ! Yours (and vive la difference) will not be advertising it's a Z !

I LOVE the sound of a Z engine too, I love the induction roar as much as anything.

I also love the sound of a V8 but I have to say although it sounds big and mean it does not sound the same.
