MK2 escort

Yep, he's quick.

Fantastic car control, great engine too.

You couldn't do that in a Z, those Escorts encourage outrageous driving.

Yes Simon is a "committed driver" :)

If you want to see him in action, he is taking part in the FIA Hillclimb Masters inLuxemburg this weekend, practice on Saturday and timed runs on Sunday. He'll be in his Warrior engined Lant, a South African version of a Ralt RT4 Formula 2 car, which he drives like it's an Escort !!

Sorry I can't post the direct link, but here is a page from the Uphill Racers link and if you go to Post 139 you'll get the links to the Live Feed for Sat and Sun

Ludicrous, fantastic driving that car is wild. Do we know what engine is in it, the revs sound pretty mad.

I guess enough people do and keep them in business!!;)

We are at the thin edge of the wedge where spending on cars comes to play, s30s are steadily becoming rather pricey and I do think that trend will continue. Consider how much an a1 show mk1 rs2000 or a fully Rallye prepped mk2 costs these days, spending that sort of money becomes more acceptable, as the owner is more affluent or cash happy in the first instance. Even these £25-40k cars are still the thin end, think about how much these classic Ferraris go for.

A good friend if mine, one of my best works for a company that restores and sells classic 911s. Some of the cars they work on the pannel costs alone are a mortgage job, some of those cars are worth almost twice what my house is! I used to pop in now and again, they have moved further into the countryside now to larger premises, the quality of those cars was/is exceptional they been in a lot if the magazines for their work.

Its a full on race spec engine, ProClass RallyCross....

I get that, but I mean where is the £61k coming from? Is there some super high-tech equipment on there or is the engine super rare?

EDIT - after saying that, looking at the specs at 543bhp and 679 ft/lb of torque there probably is something pretty special going on there... Haha could never imagine having £60k on an engine, there's some crazy money out there!

Completely agree!!

Consider this.... R35 GTR, billet block, aiming for 1800+hp

Its important to understand that there is an absolute chasm of differenece between what many on here would call a performance engine (no disrespect so don't y'all get touchy) and a top flight blueprinted race engine where the labour bill alone can run into the best part of £10K.

Wilcox Engines over Hinckley way will charge you nearly £25K for a 4 pot BDG, 9K NA screamer, these engines are exported all over the world.

I once drove an E-Type around a wet Goodwood circuit with a fair bit of enthusiasm (which trust me, wasn't a fun experience - it could never quite decide which end of it should exit a corner or have a sure foot). I was glad that the instructor didn't tell me the value until we pulled into the pits.

£350k!!!!!! :HolyGoddamCowBatman:

There are people out there who'd consider my z spend to be very small pocket change! ;)

Exactly this. You can spend crazy money building a race spec simple engine like a pinto. Replacement "new" blocks made from an aluminium billet, instead of pig iron will cost you around £6k to begin with, that's undressed, no pistons nothing.

Eek! Do like Etypes but I wouldn't want one, the responsibility of owning something that valuabłe. Equally as you say the handling is a bit er, unpredictable. I'm very keen to purchase a 77 trans am, but I'm not sure what I'd do with it. It's only good for gas guzzling and cruising around nostalgically. Which is what's tears me more and more towards an s30.
