Drag Challenge #5 Sep 2nd

Results for today posted under the Drag Challenge section - Russ' algorithm has made a minor change to the results I noted at the track in that attendees with a Z who did not run are placed last in class according to car and get an extra point. Any cars placed above them also get an extra point, e.g. in class 1, Grolls was last in class so Steve Kiddell, Glen Stone, Jon Mason and Mike Brown gain one extra point over those listed at the track.

Russ - please note that Class 2 (three new competitors today) and Class 6 are not being listed in the tables...
Also, can we artificially implement the agreed two points for competitors attending Round 3 rain-off?

Congratulations to Frank on his spectacular smashing of his personal best by three tenths, aided by an Act of God when the wind dropped for just that one run!

Runner-up 1/8 mile burn-out award to Andy Farrant's BMW (well, did you see the Pro-Mod cars - you can't be a winner with what they achieved with both rear tyres?). :p

Commiserations to me for shredding a supercharger belt on the way to the track...:(

Thanks to all the newcomers for their support - those with Zs MUST run next time!!

Just like to say thanks to those who gave me advice yesterday. Had a great time, shall be at the next one for sure. p.s any ideas on making my car any quicker?

Hands up - On my first run I drove like a tit and shredded two rear tyres - they are being replaced today along with discs and pads all round while the car is being serviced. Mind you, have never done an 1/8th mile burnout before :conf2:

Valuable lesson learned though for the building of the Z......

My BMW was remapped from 276 to 334BHP and taken up to 552 ft lbs of torque (yes 552 !!!) .... on the road in a real world situation it is now blisteringly fast but on the strip I could not get traction and .....

Fantastic day though, thanks to the organizers.... even if the Z is not ready it is great day out in your normal road car... maybe other people might run their every day cars to show support for the challenge ? Better than a no show and a bit of fun.

FWIW I took my son in law who has never seen S30s before ..... having looked at them all he announced "effing hell, I would LOVE a car like that red one".... he was referring to Grolls' recently finished 2+2 shopping variant.... he loved it ! Mind you, it was superbly presented and very very clean ;) Nice one Paul.

I agree. Done it in two cars now just to "see what it'll do".

Who can guess which posted the faster time and by how much ?

Saab 93 2.2ltr turbo diesel V Mazda Eunos 1.6

I did run my everyday car.
Wasn't happy with the times TBH tho. :(

Never mind, had fun queueing in the fire up lane for two hours at least, hence why no-one saw me til later on.

Was good to meet some new people too.

See you again Oct 7th, although not sure I'll be in the Zed though. ;)

Well I put my hand up for the worst 60ft of the day

must do better next time. I think my terminal's show a bit of a performance improvement. If I can only get my 60ft down to the 2 sec, I think I'll be able to beat my current best. Roll on the next round..

I was annoyed with santapod though, having queued all day from 10:30 til 3:30 for two runs wasn't fun. I put my 'aggressive' start for the second run down to them!

One up side is that I can't wait to have another go now.

Was great to say hello to people though, shame I didn't get a chance to have a decent chat in the cafe or the stands (i was stood next to my car all day.. ;) )

Now I just need to get some practice...

Hall of Fame & Top 10 update

See attached.

A very well done to Frank who has tried all season to find that elusive sub 14 second run. Got there in the end.......by over two tenths of a second !!!!
This is a huge 11 place jump in the Hall of Fame and places him firmly at top slot in class 3.

New entry for Glen Stone who sits 43rd overall, but manages to go straight in at 9th in class booting Adrian Rawlins out of the top ten's.

Also updated Steve Kiddell's "now verified" test day run from earlier in August.
Steve continues to raise the bar in class and jumps one place overall in the HoF.

Great day

Big respect to Frank....it has to be the drag challenge achievement of the year:bow:

13.7 in a Z31...quicker than most Z32TT's.........stunning.

Glen stone also needs to bring his car out more and is the closest to 13 seconds in an S30 carb'd car for a long time...definitely a 13 in there.

Perseverance award should go to Andy "I dont care if its spinning, it'll grip sooner or later" Farrant and his world record attempt to get the number 11 seen from space.

The pillock rings up on his way from Telford and says " do you really need your driving licence, because I have left it at home" He didnt like the answer but dutifully turned around and got it.
Finally arrives and gets told by Santa Pod "Sorry we're a bunch of muppets and we're over subscribed to this air cooled bunch of hippies, come back later"
He went back later only to be told the same thing but he stayed until he got a couple of runs in.

Santa pod really do have to get their act together though, the VW guys just ran riot in the fire up lane and caused havok....weird thing was that at about 3:30-4 o'clock it went quiet......they must have all got the munchies and went in search of jaffa cakes and tie dye kaftans;).

Great to see the walrus there (Big Boy Burns) in PAD although he didnt run
It was also really nice to finally get a look at Paul Graftons 2+2 which is done to an incredible standard, and you can't help admire it....well done:bow:

I think it was also down to the woman 'organising' at the front of the queue, first time I queued I was in the right hand lane, and got held up by the vws sneaking in at the front, on the right.. so next time I tried the left lane, only to find the 'organiser' directing the right lane into 3 lanes, and the left into one.. why couldn't they just have 2 lanes all the way to make it fair???

Next time I need to take Steve's advice and queue up before signing on..

That's a very good idea, as next time coincides with Japshow Finale and it's gonna be busy. :)

Would be nice to see it run one day - it must have fairly reasonable performance (Mr F used to own it)

Like wise - love the interior, those rear seats look plush and dead comfy. Might get my car trimmed in a light tan leather one day:)

dead comfy they are too, well once the sponges were sorted out, and the color is biscuit and yes it will get a run down the strip once the car has been on the dyno if only to take the record.....

Reference the Beetle that blew it self to bits, IT WAS STILL RUNNING AFTERWARDS...NOW GO BACK AND LOOK AT THE PICS AGAIN!!!!!!!!

The guys name was Brian Burrows...big time VW drag racer...holds the record for fastest VW engined drag car or something....why did he keep on going rather than stop dead and avoid smearing the entire track up surely the 50% reduction in power was a big clue something was up.

cheers boys cant still believe it myself your comments mean alot as only you know how hard it is to keep lowering those times.it has taken 2 years of blood sweat & tears to turn the car from a 16.2 to a 13.7 which we never thought we would get to. thanks to you all for the support, encouragement & advice. steve" drag race achievement of the year" with what youv'e achieved this year i don't know but cheers mate means alot.
what made it all so special was the reaction of everybody there a great day not to be forgotten cheers guys see you soon
