What is the best diff to mod a Datsun 240z with ? I have seen some with a 3.9 diff, i think they describe it as a R200 diff, what vechile does this come out of ?

Thanks :D

You already have a 3.9 in a 240Z but an R180, you can also fit a Subaru R180 (giving it an LSD) and some (with adjustments) fit 200SX diffs giving it an LSD - an R200 is merely stronger.

The question to ask yourself is "why do I need to fit a stronger diff" ?

Unless you're importing a car and it has either a 3.36 or 3.54 diff, in which case just fit a Euro (R180 3.9) diff.

Thanks for the information, it will be useful information for me if i import one from America as they have a 3.9 diff and a 4 speed gearbox.

No they don't..........

3.36 manual
3.545 automatic

By the way, I've two landing at Le Havre tomorrow ;) and more stocked in San Diégo.

Heavy - yes ...............but still cheaper than a QSuaife. Why did you put a cheap set of brakes on yours then buy a Quaife ? Price or ease of fitting ?

it is neither easy nor cheap to fit a short nose R200 (200sx, Z32 etc...)...

To fit a short nose R200 instead of long nose one, you have to modify mounts/mustache etc, propeler shaft and transmission shafts; Kits are available in the US; check!
Then if you want the LSD (R200V), you have to put the rad for silicon somewhere with hoses under the frame...

All that to have a viscous LSD (R200V) what is not a good application for a racer or track-days car?

The very good mod would be to go to short nose R200 because it is the most common along Nissan range... so much easier to find in a good shape and fit a Quaife inside.
But then, you add both costs...

just pics of comfortable sedans

First of all - hands up all those who believe that the above pictured cars are running Quaife ATB diffs and not plate types ?

Next, find me proof that FIA historic racing Zs may use Quaife ATB diffs ? And we'll take it from there.........
