Chassis Number

Can I presume that HS30100712 is 10th july, 1972........right or wrong
Actually shaun, I reckon this car was almost certainly made right at the end of 1972 calendar year production. Probably around the middle to end of December.

Nissan Shatai's records for 'HS30' VIN-prefixed cars show that the last HS30 they manufactured in 1972 calendar year was 'HS30-100800' - only 88 cars after yours........

My car also came up as a 71 and my chassis number is Hs30 102129 I will check to see if I can locate any component build codes. as most parts are still standard well the steering wheels is... Registered 8/73 must have been sitting around for a long time If so???
'HS30-102129' was made in 1973 calendar year for sure. Looking at the Nissan Shatai production figures, I'd say that it was possibly made somewhere around March or April - but only a good deal of cross-referencing of part manufacturing and quality control date stamps will get you any closer to the truth. Perhaps take a peep at the wiring loom tags to see if you can find any clues?

Oh, and I don't trust any information from the DVLA whatsoever.

This is all very interesting and has certainly created interest for many. Its a shame I am selling the car....on a positive note, Its looking good for the car being a 72' and therefore encourage someone that little bit more to rebuild the car instead of spares.......A big thankyou goes to you and all participants

Cheers shaun,
Good luck with the sale. Hope you can place it with somebody who will resurrect it. The world needs all the RHD cars that are left.........

All the best.

Albrecht, My #1931 march 72 has a straight stick g/box 2piece prop, in the 80s I had a 240 registered in may 72 with bent stick box 2 piece prop can,t remember # but think it was 6 figure, at what time did each g/box to 2 piece prop to 1 piece prop change over.

Factory parts manuals for the UK-market 'HS30' say that the switch over from FS5C71-A ( 'straight stick' ) to FS5C71-B ( 'bent stick' ) transmissions was Dec. 1971 / Jan. 1972.
More specifically - the books actually say that the 'A' box was up to end of Dec. 1971 and the 'B' box started in Jan. 1971.

I would suggest taking that with a small pinch of salt, but then it is very hard to pin down the exact production date of these cars - so you have to be pragmatic anyway........

Propshaft situation is a little more complicated. The first type ( 37000-E4100 ) is listed as used "up to 08/71". and the HS30 finally ended up with 37000-N3000 - which is listed as starting in 07/72, and superseded 37000-E8710.

E4100 is definitely the original two-piece prop with yokes on both ends, as opposed to the later one-piece type with bolt-on yoke at prop end and the sliding splines at the trans end. What is in between does not seem as simply defined as the A type to B type tranny changeover.

Some help, I hope?

Albrecht,

Yes, I spent about 10 minutes searching for the word Kanji and this is all I could find, I didn't think it was the right thread.

I have moved it.
