Z hinges & pins

Hi
In general how easy do the top door hinge pins come out of the hinges on 240 doors?
I only ask because I know some cars are a nightmare to get the pins out of.
My os door drops and I have a spare 260 hinge, so I thought of replacing the pin first, or is it easier just to change the complete hinge?

Will a 260 top door hinge even fit a 240?

This could possibly take longer than your membership did Wyn :D:D
I have come to realise my membership application to this fine club merely took time to mature, nothing more

Never done the job on a zed but on other cars have used an door hinge pin extraction tool that made the job much easier

Anyway what are you bothered about doors for, doors are for old guys -- weld them shut and dive through the open window Dukes of Hazard stylee (note I said "open" window)

Ahh Wyn,
SUCCESS, you want to know about 240z door hinge pins then.........

Well dont ask me, how am i supposed to know, wait a bit longer and two z heads will turn up at once with all the info, just wait n see. lol.

I have tried to take one of the pins out of a 240Z hinge (off the car in a vice), I ended up painstakingly drilling the bloody thing out. Of course it could have just been stuck or rusted in but I don't think I'd try to do it again in a hurry!

I'd say swap the hinges, it surely must be easier to do???

Cheers, can the pins even be knocked out then? in situ? Or is it easier to just remove/replace the comp hinge. btw I don’t have a pin remover but I do have a few ol pushrods that might fit?

Its still a job ive got to do n whilst im waiting I might aswell try find out what’s involved.

Well I beat the daylights out of mine and it went nowhere so I sort of assumed that it didn't just come out as other hinges do. I suppose if you heated it up it might?

In my experience of hinges the pins are predded in and are a bugger to get out. You can take the hinge to an engineering shop for redrilling and have new pins made or fit another hinge. Early hinges are the same as the 240. Early hinges are bolted from inside the car later hinges bolted behind the wings so wing off for those. Adrian

A good tech article

Hope this helps.

or you could get some hinges from a lhd car ie the passenger side is our drivers side so it should have less wear and the same for our friends accross the big pond, our passenger side is their drivers side.the passenger side often has a lot less wear.

If :)rolleyes:) you can get the pins out - splined at one end if I remember rightly - then there are bushes available which may salvage the situation without getting new hinges...
