Alright well i just got my car back from the dealership. And well they told me about a week ago that im gonna pretty much need a new engine or it would cost me $12,000.00 to get this one fixed. As im looking at the service sheet the things they tested had nothing to even do with the engine, which i find weird. Here is eveything they said is wrong with my engine: Tension rods leaking, crank seals leaking, rack and pinion leaking, rear main seal leaking, both turbos leaking, tailshaft leaking, pinion seal leaking, and my #6 coil and 6 plugs need to be replaced. none of that except the turbos and the coil has anything to do with the engine now i really need some help on what to do becuase they told me i needed a new engine when they didnt even run a compression test or leak down test or really even do anything with my engine. I talked to Stillen like Mr. F told me too and wont be able to get it in for a while because they are so backed up. So sorry to keep bothering you guys but once again i could use your opinions

thanks much

P.S. sorry for being such a pain in the ass

Leaky seals are commonplace on the Z32 engine - they can all be replaced with the engine in situ, but the rear crank seal requires gearbox removal.

Turbo oil leaks may be down to simple copper gaskets, but a bit of keyhole surgery required to replace these. Internal leakage is more serious and would require turbo reconditioning. Although turbos can be removed with engine in place, most workshops would remove the engine and attend to other water pipes and hidden areas at the same time - the job starts to get expensive then.

A coil replacement and plugs is a straightforward operation for any competent garage. The coils are cheap. One cylinder out due to a bad coil would lose you a significant amount of power - I'd fix this first. Oil leaks are not good, but unless you drive for thousands of miles without checking levels, then your engine should still be safe. The dealership does not seem to have provided any evidence to show that you need a new engine.

The tension rod bushes are a common failure - you can buy just the bush to have pressed into the arm as a cheaper alternative to replacing the whole arm (which is Nissan dealer answer to the problem - costs three times the price!). Don't neglect these - they have a profound effect on the handling of the car and your safety - particularly if you're going to rip up those canyon roads!

The steering leaks will be a pain to fix - rack has to come out. There are relatively cheap seal kits available, but the work involved is time consuming. Might be worth toting around for an exchange reconditioned rack. If leaks have been extensive you may have to replace the mounting rubbers - get the urethane version while you are in this area.
