On my French 240Z, on the bulkhead is the chassis number !
Stamped either side of it is an X .
On the suspension leg where the chassis number is printed on its' 'tin-plate' is stamped an X .

Can anyone tell me why ? Was it a factory id mark to show where to put the cars' number or what ?
I've never seen this in other Zs !

it sounds like a Skoda in disguise,Should ave bought my white one,you wouldnt have this trouble then,Bloody russians

What a bitch - I hope you'll be at Billing to see my Skoda !
I couldn't quite make out the cryllic letters but I'm sure it says Datsun somewhere !
Anyone gonna answer this one ?

Answer, courtesy of Alan Thomas is that certain countries (and it doesn't surprise me that France is one of them, insisted that the chassis numer be so marked to prevent fraud. Dodgy owners changing the numbers to give younger cars and therefor higher second hand values !
Ironic 'cos most people want older Zeds !
