window tint removal

Anyone know the best and easiest way to remove tints from the glasswork as need to remove mine so I can have them redone?
would it bbe easier to find a tinting company who does both removing and retinting windows and does anyone know of any firms in the West London area

Removing and NOT having redone would be better (and cheaper). If the original stuff is really stuck, you may need new glass...

Yeh no point having a pretty car and then putting Steve in it, might spoil the look ;) :D

You can use brasso to polish scratches out of glass, don't know if that'll help at all? Glass is pretty resistant to most things so I'd attack it with all chemicals in my garage, paint stripper and that kind of thing. Please test all my bad advice somewhere you won't see it incase I'm wrong.

Would it be cheaper to buy tinted glass new? Rather than mess about removing the tint, then paying for the tinting again? I haven't looked at prices so maybe very very wrong.

hair dryer........get the tint nice and warm and gently peal it away, keeping the hair dryer in front of the peal line all the time, then use a good nail polish remover to give the glass a good clean( AVOID THE SEALS) then buff up with a good glass polish

this is how I did the rear screen on my z32.....previous owner had a thing about purple/pink tints  . took me about 2 hours in the freezing cold sat in the boot....got some funny looks of the neighbours :D

good luck
Pete

Ohhhhhhhh, I hate this one !

Try first protecting the surounding areas of vinyl/cloth with masking tape and paper or plastic.
Then use a razor blade to begin the peeling/lifting process. Heat IS a huge help...but not too hot.
It takes a tenacious nature to get it all peeled away and THEN you get to enjoy using a STOUT solvent ( laquer thinner, enamel reducer) and some triple ot steel wool or more razors on edge to remove the adhesive film remaining.
Not a fun job to say the least. Sometimes you can con your local tinter to handle it at a reduced fee if he's going to also RETINT for you. Otherwise he may nail it too you for the removal alone.
Best of LUCK , Vinny:cool:
