Whining noise from rear near side when just started

Hi all,

I'm starting to hear a bit of a whine every now and then when I first start the car, when the car is stationary. It comes from the rear nearside and I *think* it may be the fuel pump. It stops after 30 seconds or after you've been moving for a few yards.

Can anyone confirm what it might be?

Cheers

The pump is in the fuel tank, but transmission through the body may make it appear to be nearside. Any noise might be the early warning of pump failure.
Most of the time the pump runs at reduced voltage so isn't particularly noisy - you probably only hear it when the full voltage is being supplied.

Thanks Mike.

Normally you hear the pump build pressure before you start, it stops, i start the car, then nothing. Are pumps expensive? Or rather how expensive please?

Cheers

I had a problem with an 'in tank' pump on an Audi. It got noisey and then the car suffered from fuel starvation under load. Got at it through top of tank (under rear seat) and found the filter gauze blocked. Washed it clean and it worked fine again.

Pump assembly is accessible through a plate in the floor - the whole assembly can be withdrawn and cleaned / checked.
Just remembered yours is a 2 seater which means the pump is over towards the nearside! Bit more dismantling to do than looking at the 2+2 version!

Pattern pumps in standard configuration and motorsport variants available at between £115 and £130 + VAT. Need to confirm current prices if required...

Cool, thanks. About what I expected. On the weekend I'll give it an inspection and go from there :)
