Voltage regulators

you should have a shunt unit this reduce the current to the amp meter only shows 10% of out put i think you will find no fault us models differ from uk in serval areas this being one

hi all, similar problem on my 1971 240Z, ammeter is showing full whack over to the right hand side whilst driving and never settles into the middle unless idling. When I get out after a few miles I can hear the battery bubbling away nicely!!! Does this sound like the voltage regulator and does anyone have one for a 1971? Thanks Lorro

That does sound like a regulator problem - I'd check it out with a multimeter. if it's going much above 14.5v across the battery terminals then your regulator is dead.

My regulator pictured earlier in this thread is still on my shelf - I don't know if it's the same fitment as a 71 car.

Johny get a meter and check voltage at battery, should read about 12.5v and at 2000revs should rise to about 13.5-14v.
If any higher regulator is not working but alternator is!!
If no voltage rise abouve 12.5 v alternator is not outputting enough..
