I have a 1973 HLS30 so it has the "5 mph" front bumper design. Where the bumper mounts attach to the wing there are a couple of metal plates (outer and inner) which I assume are for strengthening - here's the front right outer plate:
From the parts diagrams it looks like US and non-US cars had they same part for bumper mounting prior to June 1972. Here's the part from the US version but it looks the same as the European parts diagrams I have:
My question is: what, if any, strengthening on the attachment areas did cars with the earlier style mounts (and the lighter bumpers) have? The wings are pretty thin so I assume they had something? It really doesn't make any difference to anything I'm doing in this area but I ask more out of general interest.
