Ultimate degreaser?

Black Bug

Well-Known Forum User
Hi all,

Started to clean up my gearbox, just to make it nicer to work with in general. Inside the bell housing is like a small Arabian countries oil output for the year, all nice and tar like as well. I've been battling away with some spray stuff that came with a brake paint kit, and some POR15 Marine clean, but it's not giving me the results I want in todays 3 second attention span society.

Anyone know of any products that will cut through this gunk like it wasn't there, or perhaps any professional services that I might employ as I'm getting a bit fed up with gearboxes at the moment?

Cheers,
Rob

:S30: try automotive break cleaner you can get it in spray form or in multy leter containers that you can pour into a pot and use a paint brush to work it in to the oil its very good but will evapourate fast

Petrol if you have nothing else as its easy to get, much better to use TFR truck wash tho. That works the biz n even eats into the alloy to bring it up as new  (esp if you leave it on too long lol ;) )

Ta guys, any leads on the mystery TFR stuff Wyn?

BTW is it normal for the inside of the bell housing to be so oily or is that indicative of a buggered oil seal some place?

Cheers,
Rob

Stop buying expensive crank dampers mate, you might be able to treat yourself to some tapioca pudding!!

Ugh, school dinners, could have done with some of that truck wash stuff to wash down the horrors I endured as a kid ;)

Cheers,
Rob

Take a look at this link (lots of others about)
Says not suitable for cars but just be careful how you apply/dilute it :)
I use it all the time n it's great for degreasing engine bays etc. Just spray it on from an old squeezy bottle then rinse it off with water a min or so later.
Apply it neat and watch it eat into your bestest alloys or rocker cover lol
