Toyota Corolla power steering rack

Hadn't planned to. Its not mentioned elsewhere that it needed to be done. I assumed that by using a specific rack ie a Subaru Forester or wrx and changing the inner tie rods to a specific type it would be near enough and woul just need it all positioned correctly to get I all centred so that the geometry can be set. If it does need machining then it opens a can of worms that I'm not sure I want to get into. Have you done this swap and know something different?

So it looks like you make the tapped hole a little deeper and take 1/2inch off the shaft to get an exact match to the original geometry. If that makes much of a difference I don't know but I have a RHD S31 rack coming from Japan to compare with

As it connects to the steering column I dont know if it matters LHD or RHD as for post and duty best contact them. I rang them when I ordered my disc brake kit.

Just finished the corsa power steering, cost me the electric motor, a sensitivity controller and took about 1/2 day. Was a bit fiddly due to the lack of space with the bias pedal box in there as well, had to do a bit of cutting and making up supporting brackets but all in there now

Whose PAS controller did you go with?
I’ve got a corsa motor ready to install but am concerned about lack of feedback / lack of self centering and it looks like some controllers may be better than others.

the self centering should be a feature of your caster/camber/kpi. can you set it so its 'off above 5mph or similar or is there always assistance?

There’s generally 3 levels of assistance you can set according to speed, but there is a large amount of discussion on the net about lack of self centering and overly high assistance levels.

Often considered doing the same .
I take it once the column has been converted that you loose the colapsable element of the column?

Just got one from eBay at the moment to get it working. Still got quite a bit of wiring left to do in the car so can’t say if it’s any good or not until I can fire it up and have a play
