Anyone know where i can get a 3/8" NPT Tap from? Suppliers in the US seem to have them for a couple of dollars, they seem to be a lot dearer here and I only need to use it the once.

Know of anywhere that do them and aren't too pricey? I've bought too many tools already that I will probably only use once in a lifetime:unsure: , so dont want to spend a lot.. :)

Thanks for looking and explanation. In that case, I will most probably get one stateside me thinks.

I was hoping someone (Rob Hughes, don't you work with pipes somewhere??) would know what the equivalent would be in metric or similar, same pitch etc? That way we could use something more common.

Bloody NPT, pah.

would know what the equivalent would be in metric or similar, same pitch
One would presume that MrG240Z is trying to produce a thread (via a tap) so that an existing piece he has will screw into it otherwise the point is moot and why bother with a "foreign" thread type in the first place, why not use BSP

NPT is a taper thread unlike standard metric, UNF, UNC etc

Occasionally certain threads will "fit" others but not by design, the whole purpose of a thread is accuracy and suitability for purpose

NPT is an American thread......BSP and BSPT are English .....fundimetal engineering  dont look for equivalents look for the right one.

Mr G ! Look for an "RS" Catologue, they supply them. if you can't find them,,, mostly at trade supply shops etc, then I can give you the contact details that you would need. Very reasonable prices as well! :) I use them at work a LOT as we have a fair bit of US equipment. Hope this helps, C.W. P.M. me for contact details if needed

the RS (Radio Spares or RS componants) can be found online here
http://rswww.com

Its a common industrial catalogue, first port of call really
The main depot is only 9 miles away from me in Corby

However as NPT is not native to the UK (lets try again shall we) they dont stock them......... BSP (British standard pipe:rolleyes: ) , BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread), UNC (Unified National Course), UNF (Unified National Fine), BSW (British Standard Whitworth), Metric, Metric fine, BA, yes all of those but not NPT thats why I posted the link to a specialist Tap and Die stockist.

There are plenty of places to buy NPT in the UK, but it will always be at a premium as NPT is not native (did I mention that before:rolleyes: )

Completewally thanks very much for the kind gesture it's really appreciated.

Skiddel thanks also for the link and the lesson in threads.

I have a Z buddy stateside who can get hold of pretty much anything, so will ask him to source me one.

Sorry to highjack the thread( lol) but I also need a Tap for the bottom of the front struts(2x14mm bolts) my guess is the thread is 10mmX1.00 it also looks the same for the fuel tank drain plug, anyone have the tap i can borrow/hire/buy? fanx

I have found a tap that i think is suitable, it's 3/8" NPT 18. It's the No.18 which I am unclear as to what it refers too.

Anyone know?
