Not to sure what forums you frequent Alan but in my recent experience no its not par for the course.
Well, for example, two weeks ago I was called out as a "Troll" on a Z-specific forum of which I have been a member for around 18 years. The guy who did this has been a member there for a couple of years at most, and most of his posts are from the last few months or so. My offence? Something totally banal. Too trivial to bother explaining. But he cried "Troll!", as though he was judge, jury and executioner and as though there could be no comeback. It seems quite common elsewhere too. Likewise Facebook and Twitter. I find it hard to imagine that our friend Mr MichaelR would have received any more of a cotton wool welcome elsewhere.
OK, I'm open-minded and willing to learn something here. Read back through this thread and point out any posts, or comments in posts, which you consider problematic. Show me.
Honestly, I don't see anything particularly rude, unwelcoming or confrontational there. Some (healthy!) scepticism maybe, but that is quite understandable in answer to the description and robust asking price combined with a lack of good photos. My own post was - I hope - good advice paired with some (rhetorical) questions and a polite request for a glovebox base photo, and an explanation for that request. It went unanswered...
