Rough price

Hi all, anyone know the price of hardened valve seats for running unleaded fuel, on a E88 head (later 260z with larger inlets).
Any info would be great.
Nick.

Valve seats on a '77/'78 260Z should already be unleaded compatible according to Nissan's information issued when unleaded petrol was first introduced. If the E88 head has the cut-outs for injectors on the inlet ports then you can be pretty sure you are OK as this will equate to the 280Z USA model which would have to be unleaded compatible.

If you find you have to replace valve seats, you will end up reconditioning the rest of the head, probably replacing some guides etc. The job will run to £300 - £400 at most engineering shops.

This is the cue for you all to jump in and claim that your local shop is much cheaper, etc, etc.

Thanks Mike, but I only really need the price of the inlet seat's themselves as I can get them fitted cheaply through where I work.
Thanks

Nick

Nissan's list price per seat is £14.00 + VAT. They seem to list the same seat from 1973 on, thus implying that all 260Zs should be unleaded compatible anyway......?

Well, I've been using unleaded in my T-plate 260 since I got her a couple of years ago, so I hope unleaded is OK!

(Wouldn't want anything else to break/snap/fall off/commit metal suicide etc)

if you have a cast iron head then the chances are that the valve seats are machined out of the head material. therefore without the lead in the petrol to soften the blow of the valve hitting the seat you will find that the valve will slowly beat its way into the head. in this case the head is machined to take a replacement seat usually phosurure bronze which will withstand the impact better. I havent yet come across an alluminium head that doesnt have these inserts fitted as standard. hope this helps.
ps &nbsp;i have run all my race engines on standard seats and even with the valve springs that i am running now there is no sign of wear in the standard valve seats, and these springs are strong. &nbsp; ben <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>
