Hi,
What's the best thing to use to remove the patchy lacquer from the engine rocker cover on my 280ZX?

its fooked...no cleaning will bring that back for a long period of time. Bead blast or paint remover and then a slight polish and re laquer if you wanted it perfect.

Hi,
It doesn't actually look that bad in reality, that photo by a previous owner, makes it look worse than it is!...
Weather permitting I will have a clean of the engine bay tomorrow and try some different cleaners and a toothbrush!:conf2:

Hi,
Spent an hour and a half cleaning the lacquer off with some paint stripper and then used some Autoglym metal polish that I have, to clean it up a bit......

I wondered if wire wool would be ok to use.The Autoglym metal polish is basically the same as Autosol I think?
The worst area is on the top by the NISSAN lettering, where the metal has become dull.

Its seems to have had rave revues and it is meant to be fine on split rims you agitate it and it turns to foam

Worth buying a bottle trying it and if it doesn't work nothing lost as you could use the rest on your wheels

Hi,
I ran out of Autoglym metal polish and so nicked my wife's Brasso wadding!...Seems to work just as well, using some fine steel wool to work it in!
