George, I have some Citroen info for you, I have to sift through some mags to find it first though ! Thanks !

Sean,

Are you asking about the very first R380 ( later to be known as the R380-I ), or the R380-II, or indeed the R381 / R382 / R383 ( which themselves had several different versions for each code number )?

Which specific version are you asking about?

The very first R380 was actually based on a Brabham BT8 coupe. This car still exists in Nissan's collection in Japan. I have taken quite a few photos of it over there.

The whole subject is very complicated, and it is probably impossible to cover it on a forum like this and do it justice.

And what's the big hurry?

My dear Count,

The original request was for the R380 but that's in part because I only knew about that one ! Didn't realise that R380S like the HS-30s in the States have version numbers :) !

I thought I read that the R380 (I and II) did turn a wheel in the States (are we being finnicky here and saying "yes, but it never raced" ?) !

Sean

ps, Belated, but your pictures from Gama and Ginza and others' contribution (on a certain free website thread) are fabulous - a Z convention over there with a day in each 'museum' would be worth saving up for...!

pps, pm/email me your email address and I'll explain the hurry and also the desire to get the correct facts !

I forgot, anything you might have (photos but specifically tech spec, build history, why etc ) on the 126X prototype would be nice too, looks a bit like a Marzal, gullwing, I believe ?

Being pernickety - I don't believe any R380 / R380-I / R380-II / R380-III / R381 / R382 / R383 ever set foot ( wheel? ) in the USA. South America, yes. USA, no. Where did you read that it did?

PM'd you my direct e-mail address.

Maybe I mis-understood (again) :)

The R381 ran with a Nissan ordered Dean Moon (southern californian) small block chevy engine whereas the R380 began life as a Brabham BT8 chassis No.SC 9 1964 with a Nissan GR8 engine ! Better ?

I thought that the R380 had been run and tested using this US engine before going onto South America to race ! That would have been logic.......?
