Polished/Painted Fuel Rail

What have you guys done to make it look good?

I was thinking of either polishing it, chroming it or painting it..

Any suggestions?

Do away with it mate ! Find a nice, discreet way of running your fuel to the motor and withdraw one more lot of unsightly wires/pipes from an otherwise great looking engine bay ! If you had to keep 'em, I'd say black anodised paint !

Well I have painted my intake manifold black already so I need a contrast really. I do like the look of the custom made fuel rails but I find that the spark plug wires look messy over them.

Has anyone got any pics of custom fuel rails on their cars?

Why are you so keen to show off the fuel lines ? Don't you think they look messy, detracting from the engine head ?

i'm spending so much time getting the outside of mine sorted, i decided "sod it" was the correct attitude to the engine bay for the time being.its got a grands worth of artwork on the bonnet & £800 worth of paint to go on the bodywork(no labour as i'm not charging myself:D )

its under the bonnet m8 if its mechanically sound, its good enough for me.

I may have a chrome fuel rail to tempt you, or also a couple of Brand New standard ones in the 280ZX rummage section at MJP. Also, a fuel rail heat shield from a foreign (i.e. not U.K.) market application. The alternative is to invest loads of money in a billet alloy replacement and get into the aircraft alloy fittings and braided hose scenario. Then you will know what it is like to be a poor man...

tis a brave man to rummage in mikes pants......lol

Bring 'em up over the gearbox against the bulkhead and thence to the carbs or over the radiator and onto the passenger side inner-wing, past the coil to the carbs !

Someone will cry, "in the case of an accident the pipes could be split" - fit an electric pump with an over-ride switch in the car (useful anti-theft device) !

Don't tell me that pipes fitted as such will allow the fuel to heat up, going across the engine head isn't the coolest place under the bonnet !

Doesn't change anything except that with no float bowls, you're not likely to suffer fuel vaporisation :)

Mr.F do you have any of these chrome rails about please?

I have a nasty red painted and bent set up at the moment, so I was going to make my own but depending on £ I may just buy new(er).

Unless I can figure out where Sean meant with the fuel pipes, I have to run new ones anyway.

There is a fellow in the US who sells a really nice extruded billet rail that can accept the stock "barbed" injectors or another that accepts the uprated "o'ring" injectors.
I believe 99.00$ US buys it and you can buy the nicer AN fittings and go with Braided stainless hose.Or go with standard brass fittings if your pinching the purse.( the one in the green Z is a custom stainledd log I fabbed up,not a Pallnet alloy log. ) You can look here>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Another suggestion regarding your spark wires that I've done for YEARS is to buy or fab some wire looms that allow you to run custom length wires in FRONT of the moter neatly and out of sight for the most part.
That way cleaning up your sexy valve/rocker cover !
Something like this.......................

It makes access to cover removal THAT much easier to do ! Most of my American Z friends make it their new standard after watching me do it for so long.
Hope this helps or makes for a convienient option.
( I also apologize if you folks are getting bored with that engine pic)
......Cheers,Vinny

I have a Pallnet Fuel rail and I cannot recommend the guy enough, his products are well made and he goes the extra mile for his customers.

I'm not sure it's really period enough for what I'm doing with my engine. Might look like the only modern bit on it :( I think I'll see how it cleans up and straightens up (I am tempted to make my own with brake pipe connections if I can do a tidy job) and get Grolls mate to plate it.

I agree Russ the Pallnet rail wont be for you at all, far too modern looking for a period engine - thought i'd plug him though, since his site was listed, as he produces great products.:)

Personally I would sand blast your current rail and get it chromed. :) .

ooops ! I could have sworn I'd read this was an EFI engine, sorry. I wouldn't have cranked on about the fuel rail update.
I need to READ slower and THINK faster ! lol.
I have seen the S30 fuel rail chromed and they DO look fantastic.......provided that the rest of the area and parts are tidy and fresh.;)
I'd say "go for it"........Cadium plating or Zinc just doesent last at all.

:) no problemo, interesting to see anyway. I'll go with the plating, I don't mind the way everything is routed anyway as it seems to make it look like the engine is funtional to me so I'll leave it as is.

Cheers
