Hello,

Well as I have time off work I can get on with this site I bought vBulletin for us earlier, if it gets approved at the AGM for club money I can be refunded, if not then such as life, but it means I can get rolling on that.

The Ikonboard 3 converter for vB isn't going smoothly, basically I need to convert Ib to run on mySql, which it isn't so I can then convert it. Due to this potentially making the forum a bit iffy until I figure it out I'm planning to take the forum down at 1am tonight. It should be back up by 3am.

Hope this doesn't interfere with you late night uns!

Well the transfer has gone VERY smoothly after I fought it out for a bit, Ikonboard has been succesfully transferred and I have started work on some modifications.

Give me a week to make it look sweet and one night when everyones asleep I'll make the transmission.

The only thing is EVERYONE will have to update their password, can't be helped I'm afraid, however this means some of the inactive 650 members might return <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

That is effectively a running conversion, all it needs now is the galleries, shop etc etc moving.

It's all good I think, just need to work on the colour scheme as well <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

will previous post totals be carried forward?

HI RUSS IT SEEMS THAT ON THE TRANSFEWR OF THE FORUMS ALL THE POLL RESULTS ARE MISSING AND THE TOPIC STARTER SEEMS TO REGISTER AS THE SECOND POST AS THE STARTER OF THE THREADS
May be this is causing the polls to go missing

I'm working on what are known as vb hacks, these are additions/alterations to the vb software, like adding a gallery etc. The first I've done is the welcome panel, and soon there will be all sorts.

There is a cool hack where I can in your profile get you to enter your member number, I dont know how this works, I guess I confirm it and then you get different privaleges (like writing articles etc).

Anyway the best bit is if your a non member you get a "How to join the Z club" bit at the top when you visit the front page, if your already a member you dont <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Endless possibilities, it'll take some time, if in a year we have a perfect website it'll be a good job, but there are people out there who for fun will write a hack for the forum so it performs exactly how we want it <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Anyway sorry for long boring post, I'm excited, onto your questions.

Registering should be easy, just have to look for a register button somewhere on it, I'll make it more obvious and make the text glow <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Previous post totals are carried forward, you may notice they are slightly lower though, this is because I went through (well vb did for me) and removed any duplicate posts etc and reorganised and tidied it all <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> It works out about 15 duplicate posts have been created.

When I transfer the forum across vB says "Do you want to e-mail everyone their new password" and it sends a nice helpful e-mail to everyone with their new pass, how to login and change their password and the reason for it (Ikonboard uses a poor encryption method).

Cheers, Steve I've given you admin privs (you probably had them anyway) so you can wonder through and play, try not to e-mail 650 people though <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Anyone else wants admin &nbsp;or their username/password sent let me know, in the mean time use a different username to your old one because you are actually register on the board, with all your private messages already due to the transfer.

Hi,

Ok I'll look into the poll results, sorry to be thick but what is the topic starter? Do you mean on THIS message board? The links are a little bodged on this board I think due to the not so smooth transmition to running mySql here, but as each forum gets a new post its sorted out.

Have replied on vbulletin forum as it is that board it occurs on

also what happens to the new posts entered the other board when you transfer over to it will they be added to the posts from here when it is all tranfered

well that dosn't come over clearly but i know what I mean

should people only post here and just play with the other board

POSTS ON THE NEW BOARD WILL BE LOST

along with everything on there (new registrations etc), its purely so you guys can be involved and see whats going on if you want, and as a test bed for me, this conversion obviously has to run perfectly with no down time so I need to practice, squash bugs and get the new features installed and working so we don't lose any functionality.

I've been on it all morning now, its quite good fun, I have a pad full of hacks to add, things to change, changes I've made, what didn't work etc <img src="http://www.zclub.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Steve: If you go into the new forum, go to your User cp (top right button), then Edit Options, then turn on Private Messaging (lol sorry for all this).

Once that is done can you see any of your old private messages?

If this makes no sense no worries
