Oil pressure sensor thread

Hi Guys, I would like to install an aftermarket oil pressure sensor for accurate reading during break-in because the standard one seems slow, is not graduated.

Does anyone know the thread type? Suspect BSP not NPT according to some forums but it's all pretty inconclusive.

If anyone knows of a decent mechanical guage kit or has a link I'd also appreciate it.

thanks for your help, Nick

Thread is 1/8 BSPT - specific to Japanese cars. You will need a specific T-piece adapter as gauges are usually 1/8 NPTF.

thanks Mike, from where would one usually take the oil temperature? Thinking a T-Piece adaptor might be too exposed for temperature, though it would be an easier install that way...

Nick

ah after browsing a bit I see the answer is a definite no for temp out of the T-piece
just need to find a BSPT to 8NPT adapter now for the guage pipe and we're there

I had an oil temp gauge on a Beetle once (air cooled so good idea), the sensor was actually a modified dipstick.

Not sure if sump temp is what you want but you knew if it was getting hot (or cold).

Zedhead, I want to do the same as you - better gauge and also a temp gauge. Keep in touch please.

Hi there will do Rob, firstly I'm looking at the oil pressure then temp later on. Just want to make sure I'm getting enough pressure for break-in. Nick

Temperature sensor directly into the body of oil you want to monitor - usually an adapter straight into the sump. 280ZX sump has provision for an oil temp sensor.

That sounds like an awkward location, I'll have a look for it. I really need some kind of lift to get under the car, and a bigger garage...
