Hi, can anyone advise on what the likely cause of oil gauge reading off the scale all the time? Sender unit or gauge? (94 Non Turbo) Thanks

I would go for the sender first. Guages are vary basic, so little to go wrong. You might find there are some electrical gubbins in the loop though which could also be causing your problems. Best thing to do is see if you can get a cheap one and swap it over from a spares or repair donor.

Almost always the sender, but pays to check with a mechanical gauge to ensure the problem is not real!

As said, Senders are nearly always the cause, and with the cost, most people dont bother replacing it or get an aftermarket guage.

For what its worth I dont trust my oil pressure gauge either so asap I will be fitting a sandwich plate and aftermarket gauge. Its something I really dont want to be guessing at.

Right, changed the sender ~ no change. Turn on ignition, gauge ~ goes straight to max. Whats the next thing to check?
