After some consideration and several recomendations im going to replace my 260z ignition coil. Im wondering if anyone has any recomendations on what to replace the one i have with. Is it worth me spending a few extra pounds to get a "performance" one ive seen so called coils on websites such as Frost and on Ebay or should i just stick to something standard. Is it worth ditching the Ballast set up i have with one without a ballast? Any recomendations are highly welcome. P.S Im running a standard 260z iginition set up.

Thanks All

i think you should sort out the problem with your car first and then upgrade as the problem might not be the coil, you just have to keeping trying different things untill you get it right, have you thought about geting it properly tuned.

Ryan im sure u have, but have u made sure that your fuel tank is vented in some way ,as i seem to remember that u changed it, if not sure try running the car with the filler cap removed i think Mikes right you need to find out if its sparks or a fuel problem u have, so stick with contact breakers, have u changed the condensor? could it be debri in the fuel lines drawing up the pipes then dropping back down again?

Well i did get a mobile mechanic to come tune it but that was just before it all went wrong and conked out on the way to the MOT. At the time he was saying that the Carbs were worn and probably no good - so if i cant sort it out with cheap fixes such as checking the ignition system im looking at getting new carbs which is slightly beyond my budget at the minute.

Could you put the 260 carbs back on & see how it runs with them back on.
If it is no better could you do a plug chop? (hot engine foot to the floor through the gears & switch ignition off on full bore in 4th) but leave the key in acc position so you can still steer, take each plug out & see if they are light grey at the tips.

The 260 carbs are not an option any more - they are basacally in bits down the side alley - well and trully knackered. Ive got a few options to try so ill see if i can make some progress this week. Cheers for the tips everyone.
