I had a rather interesting visit to a chap called Rob Walker yesterday evening. He is an engine machinist/rebuilder etc with many many years in that trade based in Witney, oxfordshire. I went with a mini-mad friend of mine who is getting some work done on is A series engine and I got to chatting about my 240Z engine.

He charges a flat rate of £40 for a head skim regardless of what and how big it is. While I was there I saw a head from an Aston Martin DB6 and a boxer 6 porsche engine. If anyone's interested, I'm going to see him again soon with one of my spare cylinder heads to see how much stuff will cost. Port and polish, flowing, hardened valve seats, enlarging valves etc etc.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I thought £40 sounded very resonable for a man so highly recommended.

Yeah I would be interested in knowing what the costs are. I would like some work done to my head so I can look at an uprated cam kit but am reluctant to give it to any old joe...too many horror stories of ruined heads on this site over the years!

MJP sells the larger valves...if they are still available :eek:

I know exactly what you mean but if a DB6 owner is trusting.... I know that Rob Walker does some engine machining work on Mitsubishi evo engines for a company called Norris designs, 550 odd bhp! He was also resurfacing some ENORMOUS brake discs off a newish Aston.

I have two spare heads so I'll get one up to him next week and have a chat about various options. If you have anything specific you'd like me to ask then let me know. I'll be asking about hardened valve seats, flowing blah blah blah.

If going to the extent of having the head skimmed, check the other two faces are flat, and have skimmed as well. (the other two faces being valve cover and manifold side. Some people don't bother, but leaking exhaust can be a comon fault, and this is one of the causes.
