Head removal

I need to take the head off my 260Z so far I have removed all hoses fuel pump, air filter, carbs, inlet manifold, thermostat housing, fuel rail so all I'm left with is exhaust manifold which I have cracked the bolts on oh yes and the exhaust heat exchanger, my problem is the manifold to down pipe joint, it's very tight and I don't want to break the studs, looks like somebody else has already broken the side one. I have a propane bottle, hose and gun which I use for plumbing and bending bar and stuff. If I heated the nuts and studs would I run a risk of cracking the manifold being heated in a small area and made of cast iron?

You could leave the down pipe in place and pull the exhaust manifold towards the inner wing far enough to get the head off.

Chain wedge

Don't forget to wedge the timing chain.

Yes chain wedge, I read somewhere on here there's an online template any idea where I can find it cos I'm at that stage now where I need it exhaust manifold off, camshaft sprocket bolt loose, head bolts loose in order, fuel pump cam removed, come on guys feed me.

Went with the gas in the end, got the stud cherry red and came off nicely with an over night soaking in release oil, thinking what you said about half doing jobs, well the middle stud was already broken and at least now I can extract it and put that right, better put one of them on the list.
Gonna weld a nut on what's left and try and extract it that way.
