Head light earthing 240z

Hi folks,

Headlamps problems again, I've got one dim headlight, passenger side, 73 240Z.

I've serviced the combo switch, taken the switch apart and cleaned it. I've also followed the black earthing wires from the switch and it looks like it leaves the interior compartment to the engine compartment and earths on the brake junction block. Is that how it is on other S30s?

I want to know where the other earthing points are for the lights, as I suspect thats where the problem is, but not sure where to look.

Fuse block is not corroded, left and right headlamps fuse ok, but I will chnage them anyway for new to rule them out too.

Thanks.

Hi George,
is it dim on main & dipped?
I guess you could sidestep the problem and stick a couple of relays in and get both brighter.

Agreed with jon, fit relays and replace the wire from the relay to lights and the ground wires on the headlights which you can then ground near the body. It will make a huge improvement.

Cheers Chaps, that's the way I will be heading but wanted to see if i can sort this out in the meantime

I've bought some new fuses which I will be fitting to see if that makes any difference.

George if you have rebuilt the headlight switch then its probably going to be ****** old wire thats gone green and brittle with age. You can built a new headlight sub loom with relays and all the proper connectors for about £20.

Yes I did know that but now realise why you're bringing it up, basically there should only be the one earth from the switch going to the body - it now clicks. Thanks Nigel. My problem may lie elsewhere then.
