Hi Guys,

Does anyone know where I can get a handbrake cable from ?
My car doesn't seem to have one at all !

thanks,

Adam

At the price they are selling them, it's worth future proofing and getting a spare just in case.

They don't fit!

Hi guys, have any of you managed to try out these handbrake cables from Thailand yet?
I recieved mine this week and tried to fit last night - the flange is too small and it just pulls straight through the hole in the mounting bracket on the chassis and near the drums!
The holes in the car are 15mm and the biggest section of the cable end is 14mm, so it falls straight through.

Anyone else have this issue?

The ferrule on the end differs in size from early 240 to 260 having had a chat with Mike at MJP recently. My 240 still had an early cable on it before I took the car apart. I managed to get a new old stock cable but the ferrule was bigger so I have made my holes bigger. A common upgrade as the early cables have been unavailable for some time. I can measure the difference in size tomorrow and let you know. Not that it's going to help much.

240Zs had the smaller hole from new but Nissan changed the cable supplied to the early 260Z version with the slightly bigger ferrules. It was called a "conditional fit" - the condition being that you had to file out the holes in the brackets on the car.
Since 240Zs are now up to 45 years old, most will have had the later replacement and the holes enlarged...

Cheers guys, that explains it. I wonder though, why these aftermarket (Thailand sourced) cables use the smaller ferrule size? Wouldn't it be smarter to make them to the larger size, so they fit all vehicles which they claim to (ie. you can drill/file out a small hole, but it's not so easy to shrink a larger hole!)?

The only easy option for me now seems to be to carefully butt-weld a thick washer or similar with a 14mm ID over the ferrule outer to increase its diameter. And source new clips as the ones intended for the larger ferrules are slightly too big for the smaller ones (I have 2 off an S15 200SX at home that seem to fit the smaller cable ferrules perfectly, though I have no idea where to buy another 2 from!)

I could mod the car, but working on the brackets attached to the chassis will be a pain. I'd have to weld-fill and re-drill the holes.

I can only assume they got hold of an early cable to copy. After all they are not likely to know the history of development.

I'll let you know how I get on,I've got some fabricating to do anyway as mine has a rear disc setup and I need to make a bracket.
Two weeks and counting till she arrives in the UK.
To say I'm excited is a slight understatement....

I realise this is over 3 years old but rather than make a new topic, did you/anyone fit one of these happily? Or where should I pick one up from?

See my post above. Still got the same one on my car (which is a 71 with rear disc conversion - no fitment issues). Only problem I’ve had was some corrosion on the cable on one side causing binding issues. Heavily lubricated with ACF-50 to sort that out.

They are still available on eBay for around £50 including post.

Thanks Richie, will order this then :)

Seeing as pmac seems to have a never-ending supply of old parts under his bed/in his garage/in stock in the warehouse, and they seem to come on here in batches - it might be worth an email to him maybe ... see what he has 'in stock'!
