Gilberns

Was there another car very similar to the Gilburn Invader/Genie at the same time , This has been racking my brain for a few days ! I'm sure that there was another similar bodied car, in the same vein as the Warwick and Peerless look similar.
Any help ?

? except the gordon keeble , scimitar used the ford lump like the gilberns did or do you mean ginetta ?? you dont mean TVR taimar/3000m do you ??

The only car that looked similar was the Scimitar. I used to have a Gilbern estate and everyone thought it was a Scimitar. Used the same Ford V6 engine but with MGB suspension and back axle. I cannot think of anything like that unless your thinking of an early Lotus which was very angular.

Gordon Keeble

Gilbern Invader

Both quite similar, the Gordon Keeble used V8 muscle though!

Maybe I was confusing the Genie and the Invader (different badges ?) but I'd take the Gordon Keeble anyday - proof that the English can make italian/US hybridz as well as the swiss/italians/germans.....

Gives some serious credence to all the Z/ZX hybridz too, no ?

Hi Sean , you got me thinking too so I checked my library and found what you did,the Gilbern GT 2+2 59/67,the Genie 4 seat 66/70 and the Invader 4 seat or estate,69/74 I am sure I went to the factory once it was up in the valleys above Cardiff and it was half a dozen lock up garages. the Peerless GT 4 seater 57/60 and the Warwick 4 seat which was mainly the peerless under a different name made by the same man and the Gordon Keeble 64/67, i drove a GK once up to London for a customer of the garage I was an apprentice at, fastest thing I had driven did 135mph up the M4 when it was only the last bit of it into London.I love the GK badge, its a Turtle.
You forgot to mention the very lovely French hybrid builder Facel Vega, stunning cars.

another

The only other car of similar design I can think of is called a Venezia built by Touring of Milan in 63/64. Its a Sunbeam Rapier with an alloy body on it. I took the pics of this one at the Ferrari Owners Club, of which I am a member, annual concours just up the road from Billing on the same weekend.

That's a sweet little car (the front reminds me though of a Singer) !

Maybe I'm thinking of the Alvis, interesting how all these cars were similarly designed, like MG copying Fairladys :) ! And the 2000GT and 240Zs looking similar - thought patterns and trends always seem to move along the same lane only parellel !

An HK500, now that's a beast to compete against the Turtle - there should be a comparison made in Classic and Sporstcar of those two and through in a 330GTC and Maserati 3500GT for fun !

All got rear fins, I think like the earlier cars mentioned, Peerless etc - spin off from the States '50s designs.........?
