General feeling on Ferrari kits?

What do you all think about ferrari body kits? As with most classic car clubs, I'm sure there'll be purists that will think they are the spawn of satan, but I was just wondering what the general feeling was here

My opinion is bodykits, fine, as long as they aren't disfunctional (like a Fiesta with a massive jap style wing is actually not going to perform better), as for the ferrari kit if you want my opinion well to me its like trying to be something your not, like a kit car of an AC cobra will only ever be an imitation, even if its faster or whatever, its not the real thing, why pretend to be? I wouldn't buy an MR2 Ferrari kit either. I

haven't however looked into the Z kits and dont let me stop you, I'm sure many others think totally the opposite to me

The thing is, I really love the GTOs but don't have a spare seven million pounds kicking around (current estimate, one swapped hands in 1989 for $14million usd)...

But I also like the datsuns and don't really want to tare one apart, as it involves some destructive work on the D (arch widening etc...)

So I'm kind of in two minds about this at the minute.

Also the major problem is finding someone that still makes the fiberglass panels! Ferrari seems to have scared many of the makers away, with threats of law suits and so on...

A few months back, I sold a door glass to a chap about to finish a GTO replica. He had modified the kit considerably to make it look even more like the original.
He told me that as soon as the car finished, it will be going for sale to fund some business venture.
I haven't heard from him since, so i can only assume the car isn't quite done yet - he also mentioned doing an article for the mag.
Can't really tell you much more. But it might be worth keeping an eye out for it.
Sorry I don't have his details.

Probably the same car - I have contact details for a Ferrari replica, finished to a very high standard and based on a late 260Z, coming up for sale soon. E-mail me if interested.

Well if you do hear from him let me know... although some of the inflated prices of the replicas are a bit beyond my budget, nodoubt there'll be some middle ground...

Considering the lengths that this guy has gone to I don't expect it will be cheap. I recall now that the business venture was to create a kit car himself, I remember seeing a photo of the prototype. Can't say I was all that impressed with it, but the he certainly knew what he was doing.

Probably is the same car Mike. The door glass was for a late 260Z. All standard underpinnings though.

Like Steve Burns I dont have a problem with people altering Z cars. Once you have bought a car you can do wot u like with it. I mostly chop Zeds up into little pieces and sell the pieces to other people who tell me I shouldnt be chopping them up! so I couldn't call you for destroying a Zed. But its like Russ has already said, no matter what you do with a kit, how much you spend, how fast it goes you have still got a plastic kit car! How cool is that?? I saw a whole bunch of sad people with them at Tatton Park Classic show recently, complete with thousands of Ferrari badges and ANORAKS!!! Quite amusing really!

Thats ok, I wasn't expecting cheap... I just don't want to pay £30k for a £10k car with a few ferrari badges

"Well I am young, sexy and blonde. I dont care what bloody car you have. Up the Reliant owners club."
