Fuel tank hoses

I have a USA spec 240Z, and I've replaced the fuel tank to vapour tank hoses. They were all pretty much knackered with one in particular leaking fuel when the tank was filled/overfilled. Unsurprisingly the fuel smell inside the car is now cured, yeah!
Now when I remove the fuel cap I get a hiss (not sure if it's pressure or vac) is this correct, guess it indicates that the fuel system is closed with no leaks. It's standard carbs and mechanical pump. I thought hissing was only a modern fuel injection system thing.

Hi Pete

I hope it's normal because I get the same thing on my Jap Spec 260Z. I thought mine was something to do with the electric fuel pump and the system being sealed. I always thought that there was a breather hose somewhere but I can't find anything in my Haynes manual on it. Hopefully you will get a few more replies that will advise on this for both of us.

Cheers

I really want to replace mine, but as with anything on the Z, I'm afraid that once I take off the fuel tank, I'd find other stuff I'd want to do which would double the time of the job! Anyone else find that it's impossible to set out to do one job without doing others!? ;)

Thanks for the replies. Good to know that someone else's car does the same, I'll make the assumption it's normal. Can't imagine you'd find much else to do once you've dropped the tank, there's not much it reveals other than the tank hoses.
