Fuel sender Voltage question.

Hi, further to the earlier mention of the fuel sender not working on returning it to the tank, we have now taken it out and it is working fine itself, but reading almost 12v at the sender unit when tested, is this right??

Anyone got any wiring information that might help, cheers.

Have you recently has the sender out?

Try swapping the wires on the sender at the tank. Or if this doesnt cure it you may have put the sender arm the wrong way round, try flipping it the other way. If you've filled your tank up with fuel to the top you'll need top drain before you can do try flipping it.

JK ! Ive got the 240 factory service manual,, pm me your email and i'll send it asap. Got 4 weddings and a funeral going on at the pub so will be monday, but it will be a help im sure !

I've had a problem with my 240 fuel gauge recently. It was fine at first then used to go fuel scale when it rained. Then sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I cleaned up the connections and tried WD40. Then it stopped working alltogether. I then recripped the wires as one was loose in the crimp. Still wouldn't work. Turned out I'd connected it up the wrong way round a while ago. That's why it stopped working then. If you look at the sender, one clearly has an insulated connection. This is where the yellow wire goes. The black is the earth connection. If you short the yellow wire to earth, the gauge should read full.

My money would be on switched connections or poor crimp.

Thanks for the help fella's. I am gona have a better look on monday after work when I get it into our workshops. Will let you know...!

Still working on this and am testing the fuel guage too now, there are 3 wires in the back, yellow, black and green. Can I test this with a 6v battery and if so which coloured contacts do I use. Thanks

Can one of the moderators put a solved on this for me....:D

Thanks for all the help, it was as most suggested a problem at the sender end of the wiring, the yellow from the gauge was going into a 12v ignition feed at the tank end, but rather than yellow at the tank end it had become a green wire

Put it into the correct yellow plug and hey presto we have a fuel guage again.

Electrics have never been my strong point, and 40 y/o electrics even less so....:D
