Firefox

Any of the web gurus know what is going on with Firefox at the moment? After an automatic update of some extensions the whole system has collapsed on me. Either doesn't open at all from the shortcut or from links (yet asks me if I want to close it when shutting down and tells me I have to close it to do do a reload! As if it is invisible).

When it does load, all my extensions are invisible / not working / inaccessible and the whole system is slow with loads of loading failures.

After a bit of a Google I can see that this seems to have been a problem for loads of users since the 3.0 updates, but no-one seems to have an answer and Mozilla are keeping quiet. I've had to revert to IE to get some reliable browsing done...

The new (?) Google Chrome seems like an alternative - simple, sparse appearance, but fast and reliable at the moment. Anyone got any more feedback on this browser? Don't make me go back to IE - please.

I use the mac version of firefox, it seems a bit inconsistent at the moment. Try downloading the beta versions from the site instead, usually they'll have some fixes that aren't in the current version.

Chrome is actually based on the Firefox engine strangely enough but a much earlier version lol

Heard some good reports for Chrome but haven't tried it myself.

I haven't had any real problems with FF although I do have the luxury of the earlier (2.0.0.20) version on a couple of the older machine on my network.

I seem to remember someone else having problems with FF 3 on another forum.... will have a look to see if I can find it

I have both FF and IE. I gave up with FF and went back to IE non of them are 100% just glad I have both so can use either.

Don't use chrome. It's simply an old version of firefox which was built on the netscape platform. If you have any firefox problems then download 'Safari'. It's the mac browser (that also works on PC). I've started using it a lot more now (I use it on my mac at work and probably 50% on my PC at home). Don't use IE if you can avoid it. It's how the hacking world gets virus' out there (because it's built on the windows OS). Doesn't matter how secure you think you are, with firewalls and virus protection; if you use IE or Messenger or Outlook, crap will get in!

If firefox has packed up, download Safari. It looks great, moves flipping quickly and because of the worlds love for all things mac (iPhone, iMac, iBook, iPod etc) the usage is becoming greater and greater. It's secure as hell too (macs don't get virus' at all, fact). Give it a whirl. You'll not be gutted (plus it brings over all of your bookmarks and history if you want it to as well!)

Mac users (old school) will probably tell you to use Firefox because Safari used to be crap but it's a helluva lot faster now and it works!

I used Fierfox all the time, but got sick to death of it using up memory and hogging it until my entire system ground to a halt. The only way round it was to close it down and start again. Really annoying when your in the middle of doing R&D on modifying Z31's. I reverted back to I.E. and have no issues.

i IE and have no problems with virus's or popups getting through use a really good antivirus and firewall

I use FF 3.0.5 no probs. With IE when I click on any link it is always on minimum so I'm always maximising it which is a bind so for me it's FF.

Since I upgraded to the latest version of Firefox, it annoyingly crashes about 6 times a day. so I have switched to Safari. I love it. and in my opinion it is the fastest browser out at the moment.
