Emerald ECU?

I know its not Z related as the engine's a Toyota 1JZ-GTE but I know there's people on here that use them. I'm looking at my future mods and it's probably time the ECU was changed. I know I've already got a secondhand E-manage blue but I'm starting to lean towards standalone. I'm leaning towards Emerald, mainly due to a local guy knowing them very well and my rolling road are happy to tune them.

Any advice welcome but please quantify why they are good or any downside with using one.

Rule of thumb is buy whatever your mapper is most happy using as that way you'll get the most from it. If you use somewhere you trust/respect call them and ask what they're happy with.

I'm going link G4+ Extreme for my build, very good ECU's and can handle anything, probably the best available for the RB26 at the moment and no reason why it wouldn't be as good on the JZ. I'll have mine linked into all my sensors and will be running dual wideband sensors instead of stock narrowband, boost control will also be from the ECU.

But as said, it usually best to use what your mapper prefers.

Go see Steve at road and track just down the road to you, they do their own ecu and certanly know their stuff, also they had no problem sorting my Emarald out after it was badly tuned allegedly ,cant mention who by on here

Dave and his wife Leoni are lovely people (his staff too) and you are always made to feel welcome and valued as a customer.

The best ecu to go for is the one your trusted engine tuner recommends and uses. You can have the best ecu in the world but if your tuner is unfamilair with it then he wont get the most out of it.

I use Link, it has all the bells and whistles, very much suited to turbo application. See if your tuner is familiar/comfortable with the software and if so give it a try.

I've been reading a good book called "Performance Fuel Injection Systems" by Matt Cramer and Jerry Hoffmann, two of the guys who work on the Megasquirt ECU. Is a good intro to the basics of engine ECUs and has a list of aftermarket devices and there pros and cons (seemed pretty unbiased).

My 2p is go the megasquirt route, loads of 1jz tunes available, easy to add new functionality (boost, NOS, methanol and water injection) and I can help you out as practice for doing mine :)
