Domestic Garages - function?

I aaway to measure my garage.
The house looks really similar to that couples, having said that I can get the 260 in and can get out of it.
But the s30 are pretty slim cars.

Measured it as door 2.15m width 2.65m
So a little bit bigger just enough to get a small car in and get out.
Only 2 garages in my street have cars in them.
So Its no wonder that many builders are scrimping on garage size as they know that most people don't park cars in garages.
Lets face it most modern cars are regarded as a short term disposable items these days.:(

I'm still dreaming of haveing a garge attached to the house. My old place I built had a superb large double garage with 65 square m of workshop/storage attached to it. I really miss this and not being able to work on the car in the evenings in comfort. When I do finish my new place it will have a single garage just for the car and a workshop for all my ****. All Z's deserve a comfortable resting place at the end of a hard days thrashing, so they can unwind and prepare themselves to do battle the next time they go out. Its how we reward them for not letting us down.

Well I eventually got my double garage! Its about thirteen years old and is a decent size and I have a couple of meters spare at the back once the cars are in. It was the sales office when the estate was being built and the only house with a double. The missus won't see much of me now

Lovely garage you have there, could be made even better by removing the centre pillar & installing one of our roller doors

Ha - the Z is nice and comfy - but no chance of getting the Merc in!

My 260Z fits in the garage - just about, but it hinders me when trying to work on it.

I recall when my car was having it's exhaust fitted and was with the fabricators for a few days I thought I'd stick the wife's car in it.
It fitted in but I couldn't open the doors to get out - it's a Merc SLK !!

Hope to move later this year / next year and a double garage is definately on the cards - or the space to build a decent one.

11 years on and he is now moving lol, oh yes and he will be getting a double garage.

Hi Andrew
The price was about £500 but be WARNED they are not as good as they say they are my garage is brick built with asbestos roof 1960's red hot in summer??!!! and cold in winter (still here isn't it!!) got a 10% discount from a agent of carcoon got it all set up 2 days later my read out of humidity and temp told me 90% @ 10 c the steering wheel was wet damp on the tyres so contacted the owner of carcoon and I put the car in it wrong the car should have been hot engine cos that is classed as wet???? Then the special fans take all the fumes and condensation out then you close the vent and it goes into "storage mode" so tried that no difference then when I complain I tell them about the garage and he says oh they are killers do I want my money back I said I like the idea of easy access one zip and you are out but was concerned why it was not doing what it said it would do (go on their web site its a 4 stage system) he was very snotty, then he suggested me buying a dehumidifier and all my troubles would be over, nice I said are you going to contribute to this as I have spent £500 on your product and shouldnt need a dehumidifier. I then was called a blackmailer and I had been warned anymore emails and tel calls will be logged. So I purchased one for unheated cold damp garages (dry it out.co.uk) for £159 and within 1.5 hrs it was 50% @15c so im happy now but what would have happen if I did not check no car left eh?!! What a W***** I think in reality they are for nice new posh modern garages cos I bet there is a lot of garages like mine?? Oh well we live and learn:)

Hi Kev
Thanks for the insight.
I thought the whole point of the carcoon was that the humidity was always low?
In your case you would have been better off justb using the humidifier?

Any comments or experiences anyone?
:unsure::unsure:

Cos I bought it through an agent (of carcoon I hasten to add) who said I quote "It doesn't matter what sort of garage it will do the dogs bits", that I did not get the proper information:confused: all the usual bull**** Why does he have agents who get it wrong this agent ran a classic car garage:confused::confused:.Oh and when telling him that I was going to comment on this issue if asked about it more threats slander this time, but it was okay for him to slander my previous storage system the perma bag?? In the end I told him I was going to make a video diary of the day to day running and you-tube it:devil::D:D Should have done but boy what a nasty arrogant prat he was .At the end of the day the fans take air from your garage, filter it dust I presume and blow it round your car but filters cannot filter damp?? The more I repeated the special system of his the more he fought im no expert but study the website there is even a faq page and someone askes I have a damp garage will carcoon work A. Yes that's what carcoon is made for. So choose wisely:thumbs:

Hi Kev
That sounds terrible.
I always thought these things had some sort of dehumidifier or air heater built in.
Sound s like an expensive test with a fan,??
I will have to maybe rethink my storage plans for next winter.

Do wot i did,i had a garage attached to the house,i knocked the back wall down so i could drive through, had some pretty slabs put down and built another garage18ft by 24ft,see my gallery, the car coverd up is the MK1 lotus Cortina and my 240 sat in the front garage and the 260 sat next to the ford, perfect
