Dome top carb float chamber top removal

OK my car is now running at 1500 revs plus, but won't idle. I appear to have massive over fuelling on the rear carb and this is down to overflow from the float chamber.

The workshop manual says 'Remove the four screws from the float chamber cover. The float chamber cover and float lever can then be removed together.'
However there is a bit of metal sticking out of the side of the carb that stops you removing the float chamber cover (see attached picture)

Am I meant to be able to remove the float lever from the float before lifting the cover or what?

Float chamber is on a pin which passes through the carb to the opposite side and is secured with a 10mm(?) recessed nut. Release that nut and the float chamber can be pulled out to give enough clearance to remove the top with float attached and with no risk of damaging the float and its suspension.

Nice for them to hide the nut behind a piece of the choke linkage.
Rear carb float now working properly, which has just shown me that the front one needs adjusting as well. At lease the car will idle now.

Many thanks
