I am hoping to have an ecu up grade fitted to my 32z tt but was told if i de-cat it this would give me a better result. I have been told this would be a bad thing as would damage engine has any one come across this ?.:conf2:

Just as Russ said decatting the car can cause smoking problems with older turbos.if your unsure then id leave them well alone.some cars have had decats fitted with no probs but others have started smoking within minutes of the engine being started.

you need to havecherry bombs in your exhaust system to presure the turbos or they will blow and smoke also car must not be later than 1992 as will fail mot test

Hello.
I am running my 1990 300 TT with an ECU upgrade from JWT. Should produce 378 HP but measures only about 320 HP, depending on the air temperature. Anyway the car has been running fine for 3 years now. About a year ago I have totally rebuilt my exhaust system, and after that my car makes blue smoke when the car is at low rpm (idle). The car is not de-catted, but the rear mufflers are straight-through design and the pipes are 2,5". I Think the smoke is caused by lower resistance in the system and the turbo's which are 17 years old now. The middle cat's are from Summit-racing.
Regards, Michael

True.

an ECU remap on its own will not add much performance at all. The remapping is normally done so you can safely run a higher level of boost or if you have other mods that may require it, such as new turbos, uprated intercoolers or bigger injectors.

I am running a full decat exhaust but I know others have had problems mainly because the turbos were old and on their way out.

If you can afford to pull the engine and replace the turbos then go for the decat. Otherwise it is up to you if you want to take the gamble...

According to the VOSA manual

The catalyst test is part of the MOT test for most class IV spark ignition petrol engined passenger cars with four or more wheels first used on and after 1 August 1992.

So cars that are early 1992 are ok :)

....Forgot to mention that my ECU upgrade also came with 2 boost raising jets, that raised the boost to about 14 PSI.

Cheerz, Michael

Tecnically its a no no to remove the Cat on a post 92 car, but the 300zx passed the MOT without one becuse as it was ceased to be sold here in 95/96 it was never added to the cat emmissions database :)
