Chassis number identification

And don't forget, I might also be completely mistaken......
Considering your legendary knowledge and command of the Japanese laguage coupled with your personal contacts in Japan, its highly unlikely.!

Its just a question of language and communication really. And finding the people who have the data.
Thats the big stumbling block for the rest of us Albrecht. We dont speak da lingo, so we have no chance of communicating with the people who have the data.
That why we are all reliant on you for this type of info.
Not everyone in the Z Club would like to own up to needing you, but there is no doubt in my mind that you would be a tremendous asset to the Club.

Thanks for the information, Albrecht - I already have communication from hopeful eligibles for tax exemption and was guessing that end of December 1972 must have been somewhere between 100650 and 100800.

HS30-101537 is the last number listed on the UK parts fiche even though numbers higher than this are known. Are the 102xxx and 103xxx cars JDM only and did some of them find their way into the UK market? Or do you think a few 240Zs were still being assembled alongside UK bound 260Zs after August 1973?

Thanks for the kind words pmac.

No way to tell from just the VIN numbers whether any particular 'HS30' is JDM or UK or Australian or NZ market version, I'm afraid. You need to see the car itself, and ( best case scenario ) know exactly what Factory variant of HS30 it is......

That's why just the bald data of the chassis numbers tells us so little. Frustrating, but interesting.

From anecdotal evidence, there seems to have been a bit of a grey situation at the Factory when the 'RS30' model was being phased in. The changeover to the new RHD Export model was a fairly fraught time, and the new 'Fairlady 260Z' model for the Japanese home market was having trouble passing the new and very strict Japanese emissions laws ( the World's most strict emissions legislation at that time ). In the end, Nissan recalled all of the 'Fairlady 260Z' models and replaced their engines with L20 units, re-stamping the VIN prefixes in the process. Member Moggy has one of these I believe.....

I think there's actually a very good chance that an HS30 with a serial number higher than 103263 might turn up at some point. I remember a similar thread on another Forum, and quite a lot of high chassis number HS30s showed up in Australia through that discussion.
