Check out this video from Smarter Very Day. In order to understand how they work Dustin builds a transparent carb and films it running with a super slow mo camera.

Some of the shots are incredible.

 
That was awesome, really interesting to see the fuel float about in the venturi waiting for the next intake stroke and how it atomizes pretty well given the design constraints of the plastic parts :D

Did you also spot the fuel being sucked out and travelling in the opposite direction briefly with the shockwave as the intake valve closed? (Cause of carb stand off).

Also did you spot the slop of fuel splashing about the Venturi after the drop flattened out? Goes to show why fuel injection is so much more accurate and fuel efficient!

As you say, great to see it in slow motion.
