Can anyone recommend a coilover kit for my 300ZX ?

Hi guys!

It has been a while since I last posted a thread on the site.
Can anyone recommend a decent set of coilover kits to replace my stock shocks? I've been advised to avoid coil overs altogether as they can be prone to leaks etc and just go for a decent set of shocks, some eibach springs and some solid anti-roll bars etc.

I've got a 1992 300ZX 2+2 TT imported from Japan.
I want to take my car on the track which demands a solid suspension setup but I don't want to sacrifice too much of the ride comfort I get with my stock suspension. Can anyone advise on some adjustable coil overs or should I avoid them completely?

Comments and advice gratefully welcomed

Do a search for Nitron on here, absolutely top quality kit. 3 way adjustable and spring to your spec so you can taylor it how you want.

why not go for a tein flex system with edfc - then you can have it comfortable when you want and hard for the track .

Only problem with the tein stuff IMO is that the quality is just not there for what you pay. Flex are just a cheapo single adjust dual tube shock - completely overpriced for what they are. Fairly prone to leakage too.
Big advantage of triple adjust is you can soften the hi speed bump to keep the ride comfort by absorbing road bumps but have tight lo bump & rebound to maintain good body control.

Suppose it is really. Just more unecessary weight too though. Be good if they did a decent set of shocks to fit it to!

HI SHADOWMAN
I GOT A SET OF TEIN COILOVERS ( TRACK ONLY) FOR MY ZED Z32 TT AND THEY ARE GREAT!! MAYBE A BIT HARD ON THE ROAD BUT AWESOME ON THE TRACK. COST £995 FULLY ADJUSTABLE CAN BE CONNECTED UP TO ELECTRONIC IN-CAR SET-UP. GOT THEM FROM WWW.ULTRALITEWHEELS.COM GOOD SERVICE, DELIVERED IN 2 DAYS AND YOU CAN GET THE CAMBER FITMENTS TO CHANGE THE ANGLE OF THE WHEEL IF YOU LOWER THEM.

I've seen a tein setup on another members car before and it sat flatter than i've ever seen a z32. Handled like it was on rails too. Plus you won't get it lower than with a set of Teins as far as i know.

As john says though, the quality isnt there for the money and i don't think you get adjustable damping on them so you end up with a rather bouncy ride

Sorry all you Tein fans, but they are utter crap! Ive used HA's, HR's, Flex etc on track for both grip and drift and they are just well.......dont bother! A friend fitted a brand new set on his Skyline last October, has driven maybe 1500 miles through the winter and there corroding already!!

If your looking for more budget setup than Nitrons <<<< BTW i'd go for K-sport, I think Apex Performance do them for about £700.

Hope that helps :)

I plan on buying the EDFC controller to alter dampening from the cabin. Your track only coilovers sound cool, but they must be teeth chattering on public roads :)

I know that there has been a lot of negative feedback floating around the TEIN suspension kits. I've heard a lot of horror stories with regards to corrosion. The older Type Flex (which I almost bought) was not ideal but I've heard only good things about the Monoflex. Nearly every review I've read are all positive. I'll fit them and see how they go.

Do you know which set of coilovers your friend fitted?

Gonna have to correct you there Bantambunny. If I'm not mistaken, there are 16 levels of dampening on the monoflex. I'm not gonna drop the car to the ground though...too many speed humps where I live! Plus, there shouldn't be any trace of a bouncy ride with these babies!

I know ride comfort is gonna change and the way the car feels will be transformed. I'm looking forward to it! :driving:

Here are some snaps of the coilovers I bought. Hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting these pics up :)

Just in case anyone is wondering...there is another pair of front and rear coilovers hidden deeper in the box! ;)

Hi all

I dont post on here much but just my 2p's worth. I have K sports and didnt go for Teins primarily based on cost. They are very good overall but slowing down the bump rebound would be awesome when set to harder settings so if they were three way instead of one way adjustable they would be perfect.

Gotta say the Teins get a mixed bag of views whenever they are talked about but I have them and really, really like them. In fact as and when I upgrade them (there getting on a bit now) I wouldnt hesitate in getting another set.

Man those Teins look sexy, and don't worry about photos, more the better over here :D

On the recommendation of our resident Captain America I'm gonna probably go for converting my existing struts to coilovers using the Ground Control kit, as per...

Ground Control Suspension Systems

So my car can look like this

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2346398

I think I could do that for maybe £300-£350 if I find a pirate to smuggle them into this country for me, as I already like my KYBs :) The money I save that way could go towards some strong ARBs and adjustable goodies as afaik the Jap 300s have softer ARBs and I want to eliminate my body roll to a certain extent.

Let us know how you get on and more car porn pics of them fitted please! :)
