cam chain

Getting a rattle from the cam chain when the engines rev'd, sounds like the chain is hitting the inside of the rocker cover/inside head. The chain looks ok and the wear marks are in the right places on the cam sprocket. Other than than don't now what else it could be. One othe thing, is the cam chain tensioner oil fed or just a big spring and ratchet??

When you hear that sound there are no ifs and buts - change the chain, guides and tensioner. I have seen this situation wear a hole in the front cover from the inside out! Even though the chain looks O.K. static, if you could see it with the engine running, it would be make S-shapes up and down the long run / tensioner side. It's not doing your crank to cam timing any favours either.....
