Never having owned a ZX I`m actively researching the pros and cons of buying one from japan through an importer. Any thoughts at all would be helpful for and against both the method and the car.

I would be very reluctant to buy one without seeing it. So if you mean ordering a car from Japan that you have not seen then please do not do it unless you are capable of sorting out mechanical problems that it could have, have lots of money to blow, or know the importer very well.
